Book Review: “We’re A Bad Idea, Right?” Sometimes, I book interviews with authors without having read any of their books yet. K.L. Walther was one of those authors that I booked first, then went on a reading binge, ahead of her release of We're A Bad Idea, Right?, so scroll down to check out our chat. We're A Bad Idea, Right? follows Audrey as she's making some major life decisions.

New Book Review!
This week, #KLWalther released her latest YA romcom, #WereABadIdeaRight, which is a Risky Business retelling + Taylor Swift references. Check out my review and conversation with K.L. now!

Book Review: “A Stage Set For Villains” by Shannon J. Spann YALLFest doesn't usually do ticketed signings for debut authors, but when they did for Shannon J. Spann, I was excited that it came with an early copy of the book. A Stage Set For Villains is told from Riven's perspective, starting with an incident in her childhood. A Player, or immortal actor of the playhouse curses her when she's going to get marked, which will prevent her from being able to lie.

New #BookReview + #AuthorInterview!
#ShannonJSpann debuted earlier this year with her dark YA fantasy, #AStageSetForVillains, which blends mythology, theatre, and magic into a twisty tale. Check out my review and conversation with Shannon now!

I want our nation to become the most beautiful nation in the world.. I do not want our nation to become the richest and powerful nation in the world. Because I have felt the pain of being invaded by another nation. I do not want my nation to invade others. It is sufficient that our wealth is such that it makes our lives abundant and our military strength such that it is able to repel others' invasion. The only thing that I desire in infinite quantity is the power of a highly-developed culture. This is because the power of culture both makes ourselves happy and gives happiness to others.

What is lacking in humanity of today is neither military force nor economic power. Although the power of natural sciences is infinitely to be desired. the level of scientific progress achieved so far today is already sufficient to enable the entire human race to live comfortably. The root reason for humanity's unhappiness today is that people lack humanity, justice, compassion and love. If the mind of humanity is developed in this positive direction, mankind's present material capacity will be enough to enable all two billion of the world's population to live in comfort. The only thing that can improve the mind of humankind is culture and civilization.

I do not desire that our nation become a nation that imitates others. Rather, I desire that it become a nation that becomes the origin, the goal, and the model of this highly-developed and novel culture. I desire that a true world peace is fulfilled in, and because of, our nation. I believe that this is the very humanitarian ideal of Dan-gun,108 our national founding father.

BTS's Aliens lyrics: "Kim Gu (seonsaengnim) tell me how you feel"

Kim Gu, an independence activist, said "The only thing that I desire in infinite quantity is the power of a highly-developed culture...power of culture both makes ourselves happy and gives happiness to others."

Planet Comicon KC 2026 Preview The nerds are heading to downtown Kansas City this weekend for Planet Comicon 2026 at Bartle Hall. Several comic conventions are holding their events the same weekend this year, March 27-29th, which gives the event a little competition. For fandom members in the midwest, Planet is branding itself as the affordable alternative to C2E2 in Chicago. A three-day adult ticket for Planet comes in around $100 a person, while the same level ticket for C2E2 runs a little over $150 each with taxes and fees.

Planet Comicon is coming up this weekend. Here's a preview of the biggest stars on the docket and what you need to know to prepare for the event.

Blog: In Defense of BookCon I didn't foresee myself spending ime on a Friday to defend an event, but here we are. I'm sick of the entitlement.

I didn't expect to find myself defending a company or an event, but some outrageous entitlement in the #bookishcommunity has me fed up. Here's the tea.

Book Review: “Beth is Dead” by Katie Bernet Growing up, one of my favorite books was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Yes, I was such a Jo, so don't act surprised. Now, as an adult, I love a good murder story, so when I heard a book was blending the two, I was intrigued and excited. Beth Is Dead is a multi-POV/multi-timeline story from the March sisters. We get snippets from each of the four girls, leading up to and after the death of Beth March.

New #bookreview!
If you grew up with Little Women, listen up. Debut author Katie Bernet is giving us a murderous twist on the classic tale in #BethIsDead

Book Review: “Still Into You” by Erin Connor My friends at Forever know me far too well sometimes. While visiting their office in NYC, Dana offered me an early copy of Still Into You by Erin Connor because it's about a music journalist and has emo nostalgia. Well, that's all the convincing it took me as a journalist who grew up rockin' out to emo and punk music.

Book Review: “Woman Down” by Colleen Hoover Curiosity got the best of me, y'all. I've read a couple Colleen Hoover books and been so-so on them overall. That paired with all the drama of her past and the It Ends With Us legal saga made me a bit hesitant to pick up anything else of hers. When the original jacket copy for Woman Down came out, it sounded very close to real life, and piqued my interest.

New #BookReview
#ColleenHoover is back with a book that apparently needed a warning about not comparing it to her real life. Is #WomanDown worth the read? Check out my thoughts.

Book Review: “Red City” by Marie Lu I've been a fan of Marie Lu's books for years, so when I heard she was dropping an adult novel, I was highly intrigued. We've seen several YA authors switching to adult novels over the last year or so, which always piqued my interest in the story idea that pulled them away from their genre. For Red City , there's a lot of factors that make this an adult story, and I would agree that there's no real way to make it YA.

#BookReview: Marie Lu's adult debut, Red City, is a Romeo & Juliet-esque tale of two childhood friends ending up on opposite sites of a magical drug war. Check out my review!

Book Review: “This Is Not A Test” by Courtney Summers Sometimes I get lucky and find the hidden ARCs at a book festival. That's exactly how I ended up with a copy of This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers. Her publicist left a copy of it for someone to find at YALLFest 2025 and I snagged it. Mwuahahaha. This Is Not A Test is a repackage of the book that was released more than a decade ago.
