grand melee

grand melee

i assume this is a scheme card or something similar that is inadvertently named in the glossary. scanning over the introduction it looks like it mentions the format "grand melee" which is also a card (so is melee).

unfortunately the word "index" isn't used. since that is also a card.

maybe instead make a post asking people to weigh in on proxying πŸ™ƒ

it might have been something where they could have pulled it off but it wouldn't have been worth the effort.

they couldn't get the coding for library of leng to work on arena so they put in library of alexandria instead.

harvey leek played by jeff bridges

harvey leek played by jeff bridges

can we get a fashion postmortem on harvey leek, the character from the 90’s don johnson vehicle β€˜nash bridges’?

as a child his grateful dead arm band and beret fascinated me. i didn’t know adults in professional settings could just choose to dress like dorks.

the recent plaguebearer spikes are pretty bonkers. that card is very easy to reprint.

harry potter backed goblin brigand

yes. all of the card games use the same printers. it's why we have magic cards with wyvern backs, and harry potter backs, and pokemon cards backs, etc. etc.

no. people play these waaay too much. one of those cards that seems really good if your deck is built poorly.

this exact dude is painted behind the stage at the pinball dive bar in my town. i've played probably 100 shows next to this guy.

mtgtop8 has them. the early ones weren't named so you just need to look through the early chronology. some of the really early ones are probably incomplete.

84% of commanders printed in the past year were from universes beyond.

lorwyn eclipsed had 16 new commander options. final fantasy had 101.

so statistically that isn’t super surprising.

fungusaur and arctic fungusaur (johtull wurm)

fungusaur and arctic fungusaur (johtull wurm)

i always thought it was weird that fungusaur and johtull wurm look EXACTLY the same but apparently the later was intended for an ice age themed reprinting of alpha before plans changed and expansions departed more from the original set. ❄️

(they should at least give johtull wurm fungus typing tho)

summoned dromedary from secrets of strixhaven and the original aura named "vigilance" which debuted the keyword in champions of kamigawa.

summoned dromedary from secrets of strixhaven and the original aura named "vigilance" which debuted the keyword in champions of kamigawa.

vigilance has been around since alpha, famously on serra angel, and as a keyword since '04. in the past year i have started hearing people shorten it to "vig" or (even worse) "vigi". 🀒

i don't like it...but i'm also just surprised by the sudden adoption. is it being used by a streamer or something?

i think you mean TWO new colors πŸ™ƒ

adding a new color is something they've been able to do for a long time. the thing maro is alluding to has to be printing collation or set architecture. i'm 100% on alternate reality booster packs. so 3-5 different sub-sets of cards that always appear together.

lorwyn eclipsed had a similar setup, with 5 highly publicized typal archetypes and 5 crossover archetypes that were intentional, but hidden.

in ecl the typal synergies were so strong that it kind of drowned out the other stuff, but in sos i think the hidden archetypes are much more real.

it is SECRETS of strixhaven prerelease time! πŸŽ‰

with seeded prerelease packs you will largely be funneled into the 5 schools, but you should know that there are also 5 SECRET wedge archetypes. πŸ§€πŸ€«

so if you choose witherbloom (⚫🟒), be aware and think about possibly going abzan or sultai (βž•βšͺ/πŸ”΅) etc.
