Incredible shots of the exchange between Rep. AOC and RFK, Jr. at today’s congressional hearing.

That’s literally what adaptation is.

True but there have been species of Fungus specifically adaptation to the high levels of radiation inside the silos.

“…and Argo, I played a small part in Argo.” - my favorite Brandi Maxx line.

The completionism in me already made me re-read all of the Expanse books every time the new one came out. I can’t be rewatching Marvel movies.

It’s a diffuse resource problem. Lots of people feels strongly about it but have small stake. Where individual contractors or developers have acute incentives and huge profits if they succeed. They are like a needle that pokes through the net of collective protection.

Where there is basically no Federal lands. Most of the land is owned by rich timber people, who clearcut the land and then depending of the economy, either build it into apartments, large single family neighborhoods, or let the trees grow back while the property values climb.

I mean, isn’t it the most obvious? Lands like that have value. Value the states want to cash-in on. Every protected piece of land on America has a property developer who has been specifically lobbying to acquire all of those federal lands. Lands they could make money on. They want to be like Alabama

I have no opinion about this particular legislation. I have not been arguing against. This started when I critiqued someone’s dismissal of the importance of protecting local ecosystems. Acting like any single solar project is going to be the thing that solves climate change.

It’s the reason they won’t get off Twitter. How else would they learn anything. It’s not like they ever leave New York.

I’m not defending our shitty environmental review process. Clearly it’s being weaponized by NIMBYs. I simply don’t accept the position that some species have to be sacrificed. That kind of moral licensing leads down a dark road.

Or property developers come out at night to cut down trees with eagles nests so they can clearcut the entire forest.

I agree with you. I’m pro-improved and streamlined review. But minimizing the consequences of killing any species will be used as an excuse for developers to destroy more protected lands. I’ve watch them go out of their way to bulldoze prairies to guarantee no protected species could be identified.

There are a million ways to build out clean energy infrastructure. But all of the arguments you are making, are essentially the same ones people building data centers or highways are making. “Oh we have to bulldoze this protected ecosystem, there’s no where else we could possibly build this 🤷‍♂️.”

Any individual solar project isn’t going to stop mass climate change. These massive projects are being used as an excuse to build in previously protected lands. Obviously there is a lot of NIMBYism involved but they could also redevelop our industrial wastelands but they keep building on virgin land

Like Trump’s “God Panel”, who decide which whales are worth letting go extinct, in the name of energy?

“A few salamanders die.” Jesus dude. So many ecosystems are on the brink of collapse and you think they are the ones that are being naive?

Why do so many large scale solar projects got right in vulnerable ecosystems and not on old industrial land. Theres a lot of fear mongering about solar but then they start cutting down Joshua Trees.

There was the guy we hired to scope out a living room bump out.

After five weeks he came back with ai generated bathroom addition and insistent plans that we build an ADU on our back lot.

I’m still mad at her for signing the Laken Riley Act but I’m glad she’s taking him to task.

I genuinely can’t figure out why people love bringing up the French Revolution like they didn’t almost immediately become military dictatorship.

Why do they keep using the word “ecosystem” for everything other than ecosystems?

In my headcanon, Kacey Musgraves’ song Jade Green is about @fondalee.bsky.social ‘s Jade City. I’m incapable of thinking of anything else.
