🇭🇷⚖️🇪🇺 This is also a momentous victory of Advocate-General Tamara Ćapeta, the Croatian maverick of EU values, whose opinion in this case formed the backbone of CJEU's argumentation. Watch out for other cases where she wrote the opinion (esp. the European judicial orgs. vs EU case regarding Poland).

And let's not forget that this case drew a record high number of interventions by Member States in an infringement procedure on the side of the Commission - basically giving support to such a finding of the Court #Hungary #Article2TEU
A historic judgment of the Court of Justice, which finds for the 1st time a separate infringement of #Article2TEU in the #LGBT case against #Hungary. The full court says the infringement reaches to the very identity of the EU cp260059en.pdf share.google/5eH9pnjMBeUk...
On behalf of the @europarl.europa.eu, I reached out to the Holy See to reaffirm our invitation for the Holy Father to address an upcoming Plenary Session of the European Parliament.
We hope to welcome him in the near future and listen to his message for Europe.
So looking forward for a judgment that may very well shape our future as a values-based Union #Hungary #Article2TEU
Since the #Tisza party belongs to the @eppgroup.bsky.social, it could be expected the #EPP to start pushing for a closure of the procedure. It's possible such a motion to get broader support because the far-right are generally against the procedure. It'll be very interesting to see what happens
When PiS lost the election in 2023 #Poland, the @ec.europa.eu decided to close the #Article7TEU procedure some 6 months later. It's different with #Hungary because it was the @europarl.europa.eu that launched the procedure. This raises the question whether, or rather, when the EP will act.
This is Hungary's new electoral map. What a day!
Liberation day
Totally agree for reasons largely ignored too
🇭🇺🎉THREAD 1/3
The dismantling of state capture is already beginning today
In his victory speech, Péter Magyar called for the resignation of
– Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary
– the President of the Constitutional Court
– the President of Hungary’s Supreme Court (the Curia)
– the Prosecutor General
Erm, says the woman who appeased Orban all the way to the detriment of #Hungary democracy and the #ruleoflaw 🤮
Wonder in how many capitals champagne is opened now? #EUCO
💥🇭🇺🗳️ BREAKING: Péter Magyar says Viktor Orbán called to concede and congratulate him.
Magyar will be Hungary’s next prime minister and, as it stands, is set to secure a 2/3 supermajority – enough to fully dismantle Orbán’s system.
A 16-year chapter is over.
I didn't think this would actually happen! #Hungary #OrbanOut #RuleOfLawRebuild
With 30% of the votes processed, Tisza is indeed right on the cusp of a supermajority (133 seats needed). And the results from Budapest and larger cities are usually underrepresented at this point.
💥🇭🇺🗳️First results of the Hungarian parliamentary elections are in: with 14.72% counted, the opposition leads with mandates nearing a two-thirds majority.
Everything points to Viktor Orbán’s defeat and Péter Magyar becoming Hungary’s next prime minister.
Recall that Hungary does NOT have a proportional representation system. Orban gerrymandered all of the districts. PLUS, Hungarians get two votes - one for a representative, one for a party - and the final result is a complex combination of the two votes. www.journalofdemocracy.org/articles/how...
the election office just updated (at 8:12 CET) -- with 6.6% of the vote counted, Tisza is projected at 110 seats to Fidesz 71. If that holds (and it's still VERY early), Tisza wins.
Word in Budapest: High turnout likely means that no small party will pass 5% threshold. A parliament with two parties only. #Hungary
The polls have closed in Hungary - and it appears that turnout will approach 80%, a post-communist record.
Orban has not appeared on tv - he sent his chief of staff looking ashen. In the meantime, challenger Peter Magyar appeared on tv to claim that this is a historic day. There are no exit polls in Hungary but here are projections from a respectable researcher based on pre-election polls.
Hungary: National parliament election
Turnout at 3:00 PM CEST
2010: 46.78%
2014: 45.02%
2018: 53.64%
2022: 52.75%
2026: 66.01%

🇭🇺 Hungarian elections
Brussels at around 9 am.
On average one hour to wait until voting
🇭🇺Hungary’s turnout is breaking records: 16.89% by 9am (2022: 10.31%). Areas where the opposition Tisza party did well in last year’s EP vote are overperforming. Urban, strongly anti-Orbán voters—who tend to vote later—are just starting to head to the polls. Follow me for #HungaryElection updates!
Reposting this thread for one last time. Early morning participation is already at record high, on track for a record turnout. Happy voting! 🇭🇺
🚨BREAKING: A large number of voters cast their ballots in the early hours of today’s key election in Hungary, which could potentially spell the end of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule.
