Well he’s a legitimately funny and talented guy. So I get it how it was ignored. But also, unfortunately his stance is a very common one in the western world. So in terms controversies, I don’t think most consoomers in this country would give a shit. He has good company as it were.

I think an emotional core is essential to a quality film experience. It’s kinda needed For us to connect with the characters and care about the story.
The Mario movie was pretty to look at but felt hollow.

Like I wonder if, after the failed live action mario movie, Nintendo did not want to take any chances, and did not want Mario to emote too much. Like , do not get into the emotional weeds and make us feel too many things.
Just keep it light, and reference the games a ton.
I often wonder if the team behind the Mario movie initially wanted a more emotionally driven story. What I mean is, in the first film there was multiple instances of Mario trying to impress “dad”.
And I wonder if Nintendo said “absolutely” not…so the movie became more focused on spectacle.
