The scene is defined by two rows of two-story wooden chaya (teahouses), featuring traditional kimusuko (fine vertical slats) on the lower floors and large windows above. The central thoroughfare is blanketed in a clean layer of white snow, which softens the perspective and leads the eye toward the rising, tree-covered hillside in the background. A few pedestrians in winter clothing add a sense of quiet life to the historic street, while old-fashioned lamp posts provide a rhythmic verticality to the composition.
