This episode of the Sacred Nine Project podcast is SO good: Bruce Dorsey, Professor of History, Swarthmore College, @profbrucedorsey.bsky.social, speaking with C. Leonard Raybon, about translating *Murder in a Mill Town* into the vocal concert *American Martyr.* Wow.

A “stunning, deeply moving book”: So grateful for the review of *My Hijacking* in *Reviews in American History*! “Hodes is a renowned historian of nineteenth-century America, but here she brings her formidable skills . . . to bear on a more personal story, albeit one shot through with geopolitics.”
AMERICAN MARTYR concert preceded last night by a lively conversation called "History in Translation: Creative Adaptation of History Writing" with @profbrucedorsey.bsky.social and C. Leonard Raybon of Tulane University and the Sacred Nine Project
An magnificent event--history "brought to life in a new creative way"!
"You talkin' to me?"
No Kings, Delaware County, PA--great turn-out! Loved this sign.
Do not mess with this one.
Excited for upcoming world premiere concert, AMERICAN MARTYR, by composer C. Leonard Raybon and inspired by my book MURDER IN A MILL TOWN, at @swarthmorecollege.bsky.social on Friday, March 27 at 8pm. Sponsored by the William J. Cooper Foundation.

Conversations with fellow writers, almost daily, offering evidence for the Magic 8 Ball's prediction.

"Empty bolt holes and shadows are all that remains on the brick walls where explanatory panels were displayed . . . One woman cried silently at their absence. . . . A hand-lettered sign said 'Slavery was real.'" . . . It's all connected.

Alex Pretti’s last words were “are you ok?” said the woman next to him who ICE also pepper sprayed in the face.
AHA member @marthahodes.bsky.social wrote a book about a formative experience in her life—in 1970, at 12 years old she was held hostage for a week inside an airplane in the Jordan desert. Read her Member Spotlight to learn how she used her historical research training for this project. 🗃️
A wonderful evening in conversation with Ben Yagoda, discussing Ben’s latest book, *Alias O. Henry: A Novel* at Pete’s Tavern, O. Henry’s famous New York City haunt. Congratulations, Ben, on this masterful work of historical fiction!
Right after college, in the early 1980s, I served with VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), working with Southeast Asian refugees--Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao, Hmong, Minh: Yes, the ignorance of history called out here. Exactly this. 👇👇

My parents, both principal Martha Graham dancers, would have been pleased.

Ditto.
"Free gift" anyone?
As a veteran of city rallies, I found No Kings Day in the trending-blue Philly suburbs fascinating: hundreds of protestors lining the Baltimore Pike (peacefully avoiding interactions with mingling MAGAs), while cars honked in solidarity (with MAGA middle fingers mixed in). A beautiful afternoon.
