People are asking ChatGPT things I would normally just ask a friend, parent, mentor, therapist or medical professional for or about. It takes work to build and maintain those relationships, and figure out who is the right person to ask, but the alternative is a digital tool known for lying to users.
This is a devastating loss.
Now more than ever, if you are at any institution, we must continue to fight for critical pedagogies and approaches to humanist inquiry. And never, ever comply in advance.

P sure Ellie (7F, blue tortie), who runs this house, is for sure a homophobe who only puts up with 2 homosexuals because we feed her.
Nice that there's still space and desire for wonder in the world.
"It took Israel only 10 minutes to carry out one of the worst mass-killings in Lebanon since the end of the country’s civil war in 1990."
“..what I’m most sad about is that my pretty Lebanon, our beautiful Lebanon, soon it will all be brought down to the ground.”

But here’s the thing: killing begets killing & genocide more genocide.
Israel & US (under Democrats) partnered to wipe out Palestinians using these same “radical” justifications, so why are we shocked they’re doing the same to Iran under this monster?
You laugh but LSU still, STILL, keeps a tiger in captivity.

What a joy it was to review @e-bumps.bsky.social's latest for QJS. Highly recommend Minor Troubles: Racial Figurations of Youth Sexuality and Childhood Queerness to any human who has ever felt the deep, deeeep cuts of being a queer and/or trans child.
Free copies of the review here:
Occupation is strongest when it is normalized. They are not trying to terrorize you (unless you’re a target) at the airport because the point is to normalize their presence and occupation.
Seeing "trans kids given deadline to segregate themselves" and "trans women banned from yet another part of society" headlines *every single day* while everyone you know and every organization stays breathtakingly silent takes such a damn toll on your heart.
A post from a comm studies fb page that reads: Hi, all. I hope this does not come across as cranky, but I just filled out the NCA Reviewer/Chair/Respondent Application form online and want to make an observation. This year's form contains the message: "Please note that most units require reviewers, chairs, and respondents to be current NCA members. We encourage you to check your membership status in the subscriptions tab of your NCA Account to ensure eligibility." Aside from the fact that I'm almost certain I've previously reviewed for NCA in years when I've not been a member, this seems overly limiting to me. It's no skin off my back if I don't review this year--l have about 5,000 other service-related things I can do with my time instead--but I would respectfully encourage NCA leaders at all levels to think through what the intention of this policy is and whether it's truly necessary. I understand divisions want reviewers who are knowledgeable about the subject matter they're reviewing, but I question whether current membership in NCA is truly the best way to authenticate this.
Was sent this from a comrade on the fb page. It’s wild lol.
And may I cordially invite you and yours to WSCA, where there are better politics, far less fees and quality, critical scholarishp.
Not that anyone #onhere cares about my feelings about NCA, but the fact that the org is requiring membership to review conference submissions is laughable!
More critically, NCA for YEARS has shown a pattern of attempting to DISCIPLINE the field. Stop engaging with it. It’s a garbage organization.

“We are all dragging ourselves along, trying to keep up with whatever version of normalcy has been reconstructed each day. We are weeping and writing emails. We are watching television and scrolling, alternately hiding and spiraling, but rarely grieving as we should. Rarely living fully in the reality of now, because that would mean killing the zombie dressed up as an ordinary Tuesday, and we do not know how to do that yet. Or maybe we’re just not ready." — Kelly Hayes
"We are at war, and thousands of people are dead. We are at war, and we are complaining about high gas prices and long lines at the airport. We are at war, and running late for our next appointment." organizingmythoughts.org/the-zombie-d...
Fuck work. Do art
Non-tenure-track contract faculty at NYU went on strike this morning after over a year of bargaining (capped by a 24-hour+ marathon session). Big crowd of @uaw.org members and supporters, incl lots of students.
They’re picketing over pay, workload, AI, a voice in faculty governance, & more.
if you're travelling and you are a documented citizen (esp if you're white/white-passing), you need to speak up & interrupt any racial profiling you witness. We are absolutely defeated if we allow ICE agents to harass people in the broad light of crowded airports. Don't be a good deputy citizen.
Screen shot of a tweet from Melissa lozada-Olivia that reads “"you will be left behind if you dont start using AI in your writing" where are you all going ... i don't want to join you i don't want to be there.”

Oh and fuck the DNC.
I think this is a reasonable (as in, not radical) way for elective officials to show up. Literally just do this. This is *baseline* of what they should be before you vote for them. Good for Judge Mustafa Kasubhai. And yay for gender expansive folks in Oregon!
Dr Salad, I think that’s funny.
@edwarmulfo.bsky.social keeps telling me to make a salad influencer YouTube channel and I’ve never been closer to quitting my job to do it #springbreak
Ok I'll say it: laboring towards enacting abolitionist pedagogies is very difficult when the athletics department is involved with a student. Someone gift me some strength 🌀
Baltimore is on everyone's radar as productions and shows leave D.C. and we love it. But we want to remain us, OK! Thanks @lauralippman.bsky.social for the cheerleading!
