🧵Irish Cycling Campaign strongly disagrees with making hi-vis wear mandatory by law.
We call on Tipp Council to look at the evidence, have a think about the actual causes of road danger, and retract this silly motion.

“Australians are being urged to work from home where possible to ease demand for fuel as the government insists there’s not a crisis — yet.”
Lip kerb visible where a car has just turned off onto a side road and another one is coming from side road towards the main road.
First time I’ve seen this detail, a lip where drivers turn into a side road crossing a new cycle lane and raised footpath. Cars slowed right down before turning 👏

I spoke about the Government’s ridiculous proposal to criminalise cyclists who don’t wear helmets 🪖
The fact they even proposed this betrays their complete lack of understanding of what makes our roads unsafe for cyclists & pedestrians 🚗🚙 @labour.ie @dublincycling.bsky.social
Old man on bike cycling on road in rural Ireland
Here’s me bringing my Dublin notions to destroy the rural way of life.
Please write us a bedtime story for the ICC website!!
I have only ever been hit by a car while wearing hi viz...what am I doing wrong???
Ok. You're right. But why stop at cyclists? Let's make pedestrians wear high-vis and helmets too! It's safer right? Actually, let's make absolutely everyone wear high-vis and helmets at all times everywhere (except people in cars obviously!) so people driving cars feel better
Why Mandatory Helmet and Hi-Vis Laws are not the Answer to Road Danger Issues

Huge gratitude to our sisters + brothers in @irishcyclingcmpn.bsky.social, @ibike.ie, @dublincommuters.bsky.social, @cyclingireland.bsky.social + others for fronting to giving real evidence to Oireachtas Committee this morning!
⭕ 30km/h limits DEFAULT
🦺 RSA not fit fur purpose
🚨 Enforcement FAILING
The Irish Cycling Campaign will be appearing before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport today.
The focus today is on Road Safety.
We look forward to discussing the importance of a public health-led, safe systems approach to road danger reduction.

Great way to push people away from cycling.
We live in a country where the goverment refuse to lower speed limits to 30km/hour and instead want to dress everyone in hi viz so motorists can drive like they want and the gov can cut funding to cycling infrastructure. Pathetic.
"ETSC regrets that Ireland has stepped back from a clear national default. International experience shows why a default works."
A reminder that 85 of our urban areas are clearly defined & default could be implemented immediately in those cities and towns.

Leaked internal documents from Germany’s Defense Ministry reveal that Berlin coordinated its testimony with Israel ahead of its April 2024 appearance before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) where Nicaragua accused Germany of complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza through arms exports.
The criticism re Gaeilge was mainly because she was Minister for the Gaeltacht for 3 years & only spent a week learning it.
Using the pandemic as a excuse for not learning it was just silly, considering she was long gone from the Gaeltacht Ministry at that stage.
Excited to see my very talented pal Martin Sullivan in St. Nicholas' this weekend www.eventbrite.ie/e/the-reinca...
