Teşekkürler Hocam!
The application was an arduous process; initial failures pave the ground for the eventual success. Many colleagues (I could not list them all here due to space constraints, already thanked them in person) provided me with valuable feedbacks at each stage.
Thrilled to share that I have been awarded an
@erc.europa.eu Consolidator Grant for my project, COUNSTER!
Many thanks to @bilkentuniv.bsky.social @ufukavrupa-tr.bsky.social @cfppr.bsky.social for their great help during the submission process.
I am very excited for the journey ahead! #ERCCoG +

"Unique Offerings: Ideological Competition and Rebel Governance"

The article is in the issue @bjpir.bsky.social It is a timely piece to check out: Apparently, public concerns over human rights violations in foreign countries are highly strategic, based on political alliances rather than legal context (based on findings from experiments in USA, Germany, Türkiye)
My department is further expanding:
Two open rank positions:
1) Open specialization:stars.bilkent.edu.tr/staffapp/IR2026
2) Historical approaches in IR:stars.bilkent.edu.tr/staffapp/IR202…

Grateful for the recognition of our article “Unique Offerings: Ideological Competition and Rebel Governance” by @apsa.bsky.social 2025 Conflict Section Best Paper Award.
It has recently become online first. If you are inquiring about rebel strategies, then:
journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
First, Latife Kınay-Kılıç, Ersel Aydınlı and @efetokdemir.bsky.social investigate how states respond to external support for rebel groups during civil wars, finding that strategic rivalry drives the most severe responses.
My advisees Özge Karban and Deniz Özdemir have successfully defended their MA theses during the Summer 2025. Özge will pursue her PhD at PennState, and Deniz will do at Binghamton University
Keep an eye on them in the upcoming years - two great scholars in the making
Congratulations!
Based on a nationwide survey in Türkiye, we demonstrate how exposure to violence resulting from conflict conditions (i.e., involvement) and perceptions of state efficacy in security provision (i.e., blame attribution) shape trust in legacy vs. social media.
Our coauthored article with Seden Akçınaroğlu and
@efetokdemir.bsky.social is published online first in Media, War & Conflict. We explore the impact of exposure to conflict-related violence on trust in different media types regarding conflict-related information and news. @mwcjournal.bsky.social
Do sanction threats work? We find that threats—even if credibly backed—do not increase support for concessions in the target public (Turkiye case). Plus, positive inducements provoke backlash in some groups, highlighting coercive diplomacy’s limits

Indian accounts plugged into BJP on other site saying possibly ~25 dead. very very much TBD, but targeting of tourists, possible death toll, Vance visit, relative calm prior all suggest a potential crisis moment:
Prof. Dr. Fuat Keyman’ı anmak ve onun akademi ve düşünce dünyasına değerli katkılarını hatırlamak için 15-16 Mayıs'ta "Prof. Dr. Fuat Keyman: Bilimin İzinde Bir Ömür" anma toplantısını düzenlenecektir.

Since my graduation back in 2017, I was in @bingpolisci.bsky.social for the first time as a guest speaker. A great audience with tough questions as always.
It was really good to be back home, and walk through the corridors of the department once again. Truly thankful for their invitation…
Glad to be part of “What do we know about Terrorism” edited volume. Truly learned a lot from my colleagues during the workshop! Thanks @brianjphillips.bsky.social and @sbmitche.bsky.social for leading and ırganizing such a great initiative
