I think there was about 350 or so people who came out to "Star Night" at Fish Creek Provincial Park in #YYC! A bunch of our favourite conservation partners were out there too - advocating for wildlife and Dark Skies! πŸŒ πŸ”πŸ¦‡

Rock climbers collaborate with bat biologists to find roosts Researchers are finding creative ways to improve knowledge about flying mammals

πŸ¦‡πŸŒŽA LOT of bats use trees for roosting but there are also many species that use rock outcrops, &cracks in cliffs as places to call home. Not all bat bios are rock climbers! (some are) so we get really excited when skilled climbers get on the bat conservation bandwagon.

We just filed an emergency legal motion today alongside Alaska Wildlife Alliance seeking to prevent the state from killing an unlimited number of brown and black bears across roughly 40,000 square miles in southwest #Alaska this summer.

The very existence of that show and the ads bring smiles. (The ads come up during MASH. Lol).

Speed Healing - fun fact - bats have the ability to rapidly heal wounds within 7-14 days during the active parts of their annual cycle. It's really quite remarkable. Happy Baturday WCS Canada Alberta Community Bat Program albertabats.ca Image of a wing showing several healed scars.

Fun bat fact πŸ¦‡πŸ©Ή: Bats are super-speed healers! Small holes in their wings can fully close in just 7–14 days. But timing matters- injuries before hibernation heal much more slowly, and may not fully recover while their bodies are in low-power mode. #TheMoreYouKnow

If you want to do more than a symbolic gesture, consider leaving your outdoor lights off and minimizing your indoor lighting (close curtains!) overnight during the spring #bird migration period, typically to the end of May. @calgaryresponse.bsky.social @safewingsottawa.bsky.social

#FridayFieldWork Post a photo from the field! Here is our team in the lower mainland processing bats for the probiotics project. Captured bats are swabbed, measured & some are PIT-tagged then released. This is the summer "night-life" of a bat biologist (or volunteer)! πŸ¦‡ We'll soon be back at it!

Just noticed this... are these all glass corridors? They need to be made bird friendly as this is a hazard to wildlife otherwise.

"Think about it: A single strike on power infrastructure doesn't just 'punish a regime.' It punishes grandmothers on dialysis, premature infants in incubators, and families in the dark. Innocent children will suffer. This crosses into collective punishment

I oppose the amendment to rezone the Kelowna Springs Golf Course for industrial use.

Key issues:
Conflicts with Kelowna's climate strategy
Increased flood risks
Loss of 600 trees
Essential green space
Let’s protect our environment!

Please contact Kelowna Council & say no!

It's kind of obvious that the #UCPGovernment DOESN'T WANT feedback on the #AllSeasonResort Proposals.

And if you phone the number on the Government's own ASR web page (403-375-5722), that number isn't in service.

New bird species found in Japan for first time in 45 years The Tokara leaf warbler, or Phylloscopus tokaraensis, is the first bird species to be given a scientific name in Japan since 1981.

An international research team including Japan's Yamashina Institute for Ornithology said that it has discovered a new bird species in the Tokara Islands of Kagoshima Prefecture.
