Democratic politics are often messy broad coalitions, and our arguments based in the optimism of humanity’s ability to better itself does not make nearly as engaging content as Republican’s communications that are largely based in cynicism about humanity.

of the most universally relevant thing to peoples lives. As has been observed a ton the incentives aren’t aligned bw news and digital ads business model. Don’t think clicks and views are are good indicators of how relevant smth is to our lives, but everything is optimized for metric maxing.

Those models continue to outperform in a lot of insidiously influential ways, further pushing a rightward slant in both news and digital media. All kind of based in a sort of shiny object syndrome, where many cannot help, but look at the most salacious thing instead

They’re all still covering the news the old way while people moving way faster with less integrity like paid political actors on the right, like the big ri Facebook pages we know about, are running circles around the outlets in terms of output and reach.

that’s how it is everywhere and you’re a partisan.
And I’m like, but it’s true and there’s a lot of stories here, here are the receipts TBH, covering municipal politics more than a headline here or there about the crises is beyond the capacity of most of these organizations.

Yes, I feel this so much in Cranston. Been paying attention to local politics since I moved here in 2020 and have felt like I’ve been taking crazy pills for most of it as I point out pretty obvious stories, most for profit press kind of shrugs and says yeah,

Also when every monied interest with an agenda get their poll covered like news, that really shapes political reporters’ views, but honestly I think if you have 20k most big pollsters seems capable of finding the result you want to make your case. If recent special interest polls are any indication.

Most politics news is so removed from speaking to ppls immediate problems. At least one or two steps removed. And given history in state, it is also easy to believe tha will never change.

When most gov race coverage is mostly abt what one said abt the other or newest horse race poll, and not what they’re gonna do to materially improve ppl’s lives in a real way, understandable why ppl tune out.

Will say bias to cover what politicians say as what constitutes news has really skewed this. Really appreciate osm doing these interviews to touch grass and inform of what most ppl care about.

Oh lord sad I researched.
Real question, should we hold social content versions of professions to same standard for their inline persona as when they’re practicing.

Particularly for professions with confidentiality like lawyers and therapists, maybe online presence diff than irl.
Not really sure

It's not uncommon for me, during these Trump years, to be in a place with a lot of highly competent, serious, decent people -- a doctor's office, for instance -- and be struck with sadness that the folks running this massive, powerful country are not competent, serious, or decent.

It's just absolutely insane the the American public reflexively thinks Republicans are better for the economy. They're better at giving uber-wealthy people tax breaks. That's it

And that’ll be to pay for the prior year’s increased costs, nvm any new spending!

This was something Robert Ferri brought up often when running for Mayor, city facing fiscal cliff. But hard to point to anything but specific instances of overspending in PDFs bc of how opaque budget is. He called it, Cranston is gonna have max tax increases for years to come.

“the city’s reserves fell from 8.2% to 5.3%, far below the recommended level of 17% for municipalities.

Bergantino also cited a lack of transparency in Cranston, saying the city and school department failed to submit required spending reports to the state during the last fiscal year.”

Senate Democrats plot strategy as DHS standoff deepens heading into shutdown week Two sources who were on a Democratic caucus strategy call Sunday said Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told the group the message must be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

Majority of the country now wants to abolish and/or dismantle ICE and yet Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. told the caucus the message had to be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

Once again it looks like Schumer is about to choke after getting a massive opportunity.

So pathetic and weak.

I believe in this moment of terror people want courage something you show through acts and not by taking safe political hits where you risk nothing and take only the most tepid position.

Over 50% of primary voters are undecided in gov primary not bc they don’t know anything about candidates but in largest part bc no one is offering anything for left, or if they are then they’re making it clear they’re being dragged there. People notice if you only take the safest positions and jabs

It is wild how much aesthetically and substantively RI democratic statewide candidates worry about moderate Dems, who are tops 30-35% of dem primary voters, while offering little to nothing for left, a much bigger constituency in a year like ‘26, maybe 40-45% of electorate.

@samghoward.riliberator.com who puts a press release out that a business location closed when they’re still in business in two other locations. People don’t point your finger at gov without some detached from reality professional help imho. Swing and a whiff.

Maybe if you have all that restaurant business in one place, you need to maintain good relationships with the community of people who are most likely gonna support a vegan restaurant, cyclists.

Yes, conveniently leaves out her war on bike lanes, and complaints of not enough street parking even though I would argue there are more empty spots there than anywhere else in Providence on the reg.
