Latest Ghostty release adds scrollbars AND cmd+f search?
It's like all my Christmases at once!
I don't know about your kids school, but we never had anywhere near enough time between classes to practically make it to our locker and then wherever we're going.
I felt compelled last night to write a love letter to probabilistic filters.
I'm not sure if there's room on the web for explainer pieces like this anymore, given AI, but someone has got to feed the LLMs ๐คท

GitHub Copilot insists all conflicts have been resolved and CI passes, followed immediately by a failing CI run and a list of merge conflicts.
Go home, Copilot.
You're drunk. ๐
We're really quickly approaching a future where robots are commenting on content written by robots.
My site's comment system is ancient and based around heuristics I've "perfected" over the last 15+ years.
That said, I don't think my system has any hope of surviving AI. At all.
If the text of your comment looks human, and your interactions with my text area appear human I'm just SOL.
I knew it was only a matter of time, but my site's comment section got blasted with AI generated slop tonight.
The text of the posts was reasonably human and genuinely related and thoughtful to the topic enough that had I not gotten BLASTED I might not have questioned the posts individually.
On rereading, it's probably not what you're looking for. My reading comprehension just stinks
I've got the Fluke 101, the cheap Fluke I've heard people say might not really be made by Fluke but a rebadge.
It's nothing special but it's $75, fits my needs fine. Been using it for years without complaint.
As someone who lives where the temperatures regularly dip into the negatives, what I really want to know is why my 1993 Chevy could have a battery charge indicator but seemingly no modern vehicles do?
Is it a technology lost to the ages?
Arguing with IT is like yelling at a dog.
They understand you are angry, but are mentally incapable of understanding why.
Stupid SFP+ to RJ45 modules.
Added one to my switch and suddenly everything's overheating and nothing can establish a 10gb link...
10gb networking has been so fussy.
Excited to see where this is going!
All the libertarian subreddits have gone far right. What used to be thoughtful discussion is now just ragebait memes
I got a very legitimate sounding request to my contact form looking for a consultant for a Go WASM app.
I'd love to help you out, but you filled in your email address as testuser@example.com
We kept our work on a central server which had nightly backups that often failed.
Getting them restored involved contacting our server guy who worked weird hours and was always very salty about being asked to do so. It was a last resort.
I built a simple tool to keep diffs and used it for years.
I had a nightmare I was back with the company I worked for 20 years ago.
They still had not figured out version control. Nothing was Unicode and I was dealing with codepages and mojibake.
I was a junior again and no one would listen to me about using modern practices.
Glad it was just a dream.
Hello sir!
Oh, and Mastodon is surprisingly good at getting interactions but none of my friends are there. I mostly just use it for old man yells at PHP posts that get Larry Garfield's attention
The internet is in such a strange state. Social media completely died for me.
On X, nobody sees my posts. I have 500+ followers, posts routinely get single digit views.
BlueSky nobody sees my posts because I have 19 followers.
Facebook is just slop, why bother.
I'm back on Tumblr and loving it ๐คท
I'm terrible at recognizing people but great at recognizing sets and filming locations reused across movies...
So I've got whatever that is...
The README didn't actually contain any "smart quotes" but I have also never encountered anyone under the age of 50 calling them that.
I asked GitHub Copilot to update a READMEon a Unicod text splitting library I maintain. The README contains Korean and Japanese examples.
Copilot repeatedly failed to apply its edits, complained about "smart quotes" and proceeded to write a python script to apply its own edits...

I don't know what on earth I'm going to do with this but I'm pleased as punch that it works.
Ask your boyfriend how often he thinks about Times New Roman.
Oh dang. My car locked me out of adjusting the volume last week with a lock symbol when I'd try and I thought that was bad.
Nothing compared to opening the doors unattended.
As an early adopter of git I'm not overtly enthusiastic about jj.
That said, I LOVE being able to commit unresolved merge conflicts.
I have seen so many regressions make their way to production because a junior handled a merge wrong.
Being able to let someone else resolve a conflict is amazing.
Hah, I could probably improve on it these days, but it was a little toy I knocked out in an hour or so ;)
