if you have a severe or deep wound and it won’t stop bleeding and don’t want to get stitches or go to the hospital, you can go to the hardware store and get some xylene or some naphtha and pour that on it. how it works: it intensifies the pain and will probably threaten your life. It will not help

“The open letter, which has received over 4,300 likes and 2,900 shares as of Friday, appealed to Americans to “stop pretending this is only about one man.” He said, “A leader does not act alone. A leader is chosen, carried, and enabled. And so this is about you.””

the archive and library still are very much a point of pride for Stanford and the Institution, and it’s very well-used by people of all stripes, so there’s definitely a motive to kinda keep the serious research reputation even if the fellows are batshit

my guess is because it started off as (and still technically is) a university research library and archive, so the research fellows earlier on tended to be more serious people who were actually interested in using the archive rather than pure polemic, and that created a sort of culture there

The obsession with this stupid fucking deadline and the ~drama~ of Trump Making Big Decisions™ really seems to be obscuring the fact that basically everything being talked about happening tonight has already been happening every night for the last thirty-eight days.

The world not screeching to a halt when the US killed more than 100 little school girls on the very first day of this "liberating war" led us exactly to this moment

I’ll probably deactivate again but I am drunk from hanging out with said workers and I’m here to remind you that you’re not doing enough and your smug sense of superiority is cope for being a free riding loser who doesn’t do anything as your government turns the world into a smoldering ash pit

Actually we should just give citizenship to every undocumented person in the United States who wants it. Walking over an imaginary line isn't some great moral atrocity. Making people live in the shadows as a permanent underclass absolutely IS.

and in some respects it’s even been promoted recently — it’s neither really a failure of the system nor a symptom of outsiders — it’s just literally hard to control the belief of over 1b people via one organization

In addition to being great factual reporting, this does a really good job of disambiguating all the things that get hustled in under the header of "AI," and the various sociotechnical and historical points at which that term has been used to mean those different things.

You could say that Rock n Roll was born 111 years ago today in Arkansas, but probably not where you'd think. Before there was a Chuck Berry or Little Richard, there was those who wanted to be like her.

Rosetta Nubin better known as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the godmother of Rock was born on this day
