As a horror author, I love the “extreme cake” videos where everything is cake. I’ve seen folks cut or bite into cake shoes, tables, walls, chairs, knives, tablets, hands, bricks, raw meat and chicken, etc. I’m ready for cars and babies and mythical creatures and rotten things.

Happy 151st Birthday to Howard Carter, born on this day in 1874! To mark the occasion this year, we are sharing Carter's watercolour of a 'Theban landscape with figures and tent', which is said to have hung above his desk in his house, 'Carter Castle II', at Thebes.

A rather amusing coincidence! Currently examining travel accounts (and the narrator’s travels within museums) and just so happened to find this extract is from April 3rd!

The golden chicken is…an unusual analogy 🐓

Yours very truly. A Lang. Letter from Andrew Lang to Henry Rider Haggard.

Amusing misreading of the day.
‘Yours very sexy. A. Lang’

Letter from Andrew Lang to Henry Rider Haggard. Rudyard Kipling used to jokingly refer to the two of them as ‘Rangard Hang’.

With thanks to @gothicbookworm.bsky.social for recommending these letters!
