I don't actually care if games are shorter or longer because I rarely finish them anyway, I don't want worse graphics I just want ppl making the thing in the worlds biggest entertainment industry to be valued higher than the sales exec turned CEO parasiting off them

(there's a lot of reasons we hate AI, but it's also... not a time saving tool lol)

Apparently this person hasn't seen the various studies that AI use slows work down even among people who think they are working faster

Maybe a good writer could make it worth watching, but nothing will ever be the *same* as making your way through Ultima Thule. The stakes are different when you are doing it yourself.

As the Warrior of Light in ffxiv you do not impact the outcome of the game at all; every player experiences the same story, so presumably you could make a movie out of it. But it wouldn't feel the same to watch a character make that journey instead of making it yourself.

Harry du Bois is *only* a delightful character because you are in his head. He would be *awful* as the lead in the TV show they were talking about making. And that's on top of the issue of there being dozens of ways the story can go!

Even in a game where you as the player cannot impact the outcome at all, it matters to the way you feel the story that you are the one making it happen.

Unimportant hill I will die on: video games i love should not be adapted into movies or tv shows, because something fundamental is lost when you change from player to viewer.

Just a couple finishing touches before #FFXIVFanFest kicks off! 🫡

my main concern is the harm rather than the output, so i don't really need to hear a product testimonial from someone who found it useful. because i don't care

Yes, Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term “dark matter” which is impressive, but he also coined the term “spherical bastard” to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.

Zhang Shan won the gold medal for the mixed skeet shooting event in the 1992 Olympics.

The International Shooting Union *immediately* banned women from competing against men.

Hey this looks bad! We all have tailored our image posts specifically around the 4 image tile format. Now when you look at my page you get a super different vibe than you used to. This is going to ruin so many posts retroactively.

Ai bros always talk about their ai use like its a brag you should be impressed with. They are addicted to Feeling like productivity sigmas and really really need other people to affirm it in a quite sad and desperate way

(That prof was, at the time, talking about the definition of a mineral, and how yes, even there you could find examples of things that didn't easily classify. Why should we expect *people* to sit in nice discrete boxes if *rocks* don't???)

Fantastic thread

I often think of the prof I had who asserted that nature hates being put in boxes-- that any time people tried to come up with rigid definitions to sort the natural world, there was *always* some exception, no matter how straightforward you think it is.

Another ‘hallucinated’ court filing highlights the difference between Silicon Valley and the rest of the world | CNN Business We may have just witnessed the most egregious instance of workslop to date, and it’s one that matters — and not only because it’s objectively funny.

Imagine how much stupid pointless bullshit could have been avoided simply by not using the spicy autocorrect that is by design literally incapable of not farting out inaccuracies and just, you know, doing the work you were actually already doing a couple years back

When Einstein developed general relativity the closest thing to a practical application that could even be imagined at the time was a slightly more precise description of where to look for the planet Mercury in the sky, and yet now we’d all be literally lost without it.

Anyway: fund basic research.

A four panel comic. In panel 1, there's an image of a closeup on the head of a yellow morph timber rattlesnake, with text above it that says "Behold the snake: Cunning, cruel, and bloodthirsty, it embodies evil and sin.
Who knows what malevolent thoughts lurk in its mind?" In panel 2, the snake is zoomed out slightly, and a thought bubble rises above its head with three dots inside it. In panel 3, we're zoomed out more to see the whole snake curled up on a rock with a colorful background behind it, and there's a thought bubble rising from its head that says "Mmm warm sun." In panel 4, we're zoomed out even more, and the snake is sitting on a rock at the top of a hill with green grass and trees, a vibrant background of mountains and lakes behind it, and a bright blue sky with a golden cloud and birds flying. The snake is thinking "Nice day."

This is fucking stupid. If you *must* make this feature exist, make it an option, not mandatory.
