Excited to see Michigan win basketball national championship tonight. 37 years ago, my freshman year there (1989), we won our first championship.

A snow capped Mount Rainier is in the distance. Below that trees. Below that law Washington. Then parts of the i90 bridge, including a metallic arm that is likely part of train infrastructure.
First day I’ve noticed the mountain out (Mt Rainier) while on the train to Seattle from Eastside.
Interesting podcast about how light rail between Seattle and the Eastside might impact the area.
They compare this new connection to the bridge between Copenhagen and Malmo. (Love both those cities)

Very good video for anyone considering an EV and thinking "but how.. its all so complicated".
No. Its just wire. Plug it in like everything else you use nowadays. We know how to install wire since quite a while now.
Thanks @techconnectify.bsky.social you're doing great work.

Enjoying a more connected Seattle area.
- Saturday - Took 2-line from East Main Station to Cal Andersen Park for NoKings3. Headed home from Westlake station after march
- Sunday - Explored areas of Seattle on a whim with brother-in-law, including watching some of Mariners game at Belltown Buckley’s

Picture of Thames River with a cement pillbox to protect troops and a tree on the other side. Also both are reflected in water.
40 miles in. Didn’t realize the Thames has a bunch of pillboxes built during WW2 to protect in event of invasion.
Signpost with signs on it: - pointing left: Thames Path public footpath. Source 12 miles. - pointing right: Thames Path public footpath. Thames Barrier 172 miles.
12 miles in…
Increasingly bikepacking and urban hiking over the last few years. Have now finished two hikes circumnavigating Lake Washington. This fall, I’m planning to walk the Thames Path (185 miles over ~15 days).
i gave a talk at AIA seattle's transformative housing symposium on what social housing in seattle could look like...
it was an opp to talk about how bad TOD in the US is, and how seattle's building and zoning codes - while better than most of the US - are pretty bad for producing high quality homes
Another ~9,000 Microsoft layoffs today. My sympathies to those whose careers are taking an undeserved detour! And to those remaining, whose day to day at Microsoft now involves looking over their shoulders too much
No King signs ready to be made everywhere in US
Building a garden shed (only 3’ x 10’) and it has me pretty drained after working a few hours during the day. I’m learning a bunch as I do this. First time framing a wall, etc…
My respect goes to people who do construction for a living.
Doing some coding this morning…working on export to spreadsheet from multifol.io site.
The site lets you slice and dice your portfolio in different views (by tax type, by account, etc)
Trying to see how much of that I can do in a data driven spreadsheet.

“The reason I thought of retiring”:
- death of a friend, CFO of my best client, at 57, heart-attack in office parking lot.
- executive who offered me a promotion died of a heart-attack in shower, at 62.
- my former mentor, who retired early, was diagnosed with a terminal disease 5 years later.
Interesting bogleheads forum post:
- What is your best nugget of advice for someone’s first year of retirement?
“Never schedule more than one chore a day.”

Sorry to see more Microsoft layoffs happening today. Microsoft filed a new announcement of 305 layoffs with the state of Washington…with a seperation date of 8/1/2025.
(A couple years ago I subscribed to Washington state WARN announcement emails. Email came at just before 1pm PT today.)
“Bedlam DL3” was an earlier instance of this at Microsoft.
But it seems like there is a long list of other instances of “email storms”: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_s...

844 people signed in — almost all PRO — for @staterepjuliareed.bsky.social's bill 1837 directing WSDOT to speed up development of passenger rail service on Amtrak Cascades corridor. If you are in WA and have not signed in PRO, sure would be cool to get that to 1,000

Was traveling two weeks ago, and the weather interfered with early morning pickleball all of last week. Today, played three hours, great competition,…felt great.
I’m afraid that we’ll have a bird flu epidemic and moron47 will mishandle even worse than last time.
Would be great to see YTD stats (emissions) as part of these tweets.
Had first heard a great interview on npr about it:
