At least LACMA now has a unified campus vision: “backhanded love letter to LA and also a building by Bruce Goff”

I would die for a classic old-school-style good-joke-promoting Internet forum.

I once heard a Fire Marshall say that a building couldn’t have a bridge across a closed street bc what if they need to drive a fire truck into the closed street and then they have to park under that bridge and then the bridge collapses onto the fire truck.

There was a short period in the late 90s where this could have sorta happened. Interstate ‘76, Vigilante 8, and Driver were all 1970s driving games that were precursors to the 3D GTA games. I loved them all!

‘Packaging evil into something funny’: is making fun of Trump now just ‘clownwashing’? As the president’s second term has wrought new horrors, comedians reflect on whether humor can still ‘deflate the strongman’s image’

"Comedy 'deflates the strongman’s image as invincible'.... And an authoritarian regime...depends on that image: it leaves the other pillars of society – big companies, law firms, universities – too scared to oppose it." @anatosaurus.bsky.social in @theguardian.com

“There are different rules for different people and different situations” seems to have missed a lot of men in our era. I feel like way too many of us are stuck in elementary school.

There’s so much understandable despair these days, but it would be so much bleaker if it seemed like Republicans were capable of a rebrand in the near term.

I haven’t looked at the data in a while — any idea how many ground-up duplexes/“triplexes” are being built? I’m sure it’s similar to the lot split numbers, but those projects are interesting to see esp in very traditional SFR neighborhoods.

The dimension-defying cool of Diane Simpson After half a century, two shows bring into focus an artist we should have been watching all along, writes Claire Barliant

An exhibition of Diane Simpson’s sculptures in Chicago, which ends this coming Sunday, ‘reveals a self-assured artist who found a satisfying formula for making art early on and gave herself ample time to develop it’, writes Claire Barliant

I thought about it more and I guess there are some rooftop pools on 1920s apartment buildings that I believe are original so I guess it could have been true/real.. ?

This is awesome. I love the term “sky bungalow.” I have a friend who lived in a “sky bungalow” here in LA from the 20s and it was definitely awesome (had a little tower you could climb!) but no lawn. Nor any evidence of there ever being a lawn. Seems… ill-advised.
