It feels real good to be a state scientist working on the impacts of climate change and your governor mandates 4x a week in office work which means tens of thousands more tons of carbon emitted by commuting state workers/month since transit options are so limited.
A masterclass in ridiculous policy

The Governor has mandated all state workers be in office 4 days a week starting July 1. The unions including the union for state scientist are fighting hard, but just as a heads up, working conditions may be different than stated in the job ad by the time the job starts.

My friend Matthew will be needing additional surgery. Anything you can give to help with medical costs and costs of living will be appreciated.

They have given tirelessly of themself to save disabled people like me. Even just sharing this will help slow them that same love and support in return.

With a final tally of 213-214, the war powers resolution to disengage US forces from the war on Iran failed by a single vote.

Representative Jared Golden of Maine was the sole Democratic lawmaker to vote against the measure. Had he voted for it, it would have passed, handing Trump an historic loss.

Breaking: In a 50-49 vote, the U.S. Senate passed the measure allowing sulfide mining in areas near the Boundary Waters.

he showed up to a mostly empty auditorium, got heckled by anti war protesters opposing the war he just humiliatingly failed to negotiate an end to, erika kirk stood him up, and he tried to explain catholicism to the pope. the only way he could’ve had a worse time is if he pissed his pants up there.

Here is Los Angeles' budget proposal from last year.

If your hospital closes and the next closest is only 6 miles farther, your risk of dying just went up by 1% regardless of what conditions you do or don’t have & regardless of anything about you or choices you make. Now imagine how bad 33 miles is.

I want my taxes to lower everyone’s risk of dying.

It’s hard to really explain how much hospital distances affect whether people live or die but a 10 km (~6 mi) increase in distance to the hospital increases the death rate for *everyone* in the community by ~1%, and as high as +10% per 10 km for certain conditions, and gets worse the farther it is

Great thread on how ICE is effectively outsourcing their mass deportation mission to local police, leveraging the already significant funding they receive and the impunity with which they operate in communities.

I'm going to lightly disagree only in that if you know someone goes after their staffers you should probably adjust your personal estimation of the chance of them being a rapist waaaaaaaaay upward

Another baby sandhill crane shot: a colt strides along its parent along the trail in some strong morning backlighting. Each of the last two mornings, the birds spent a couple hours grazing in a single spot before walking three-plus miles of trails at a pretty brisk pace. #birds

At a glance, 2599 recipients - I think the highest total ever? And quite a few in the Life Sciences, which I know was a concern for many - Evolutionary Biology had twice as many recipients (38) as last year (19).
