American Archive of Public Broadcasting A collaboration between GBH and the Library of Congress with a long-term vision to preserve and make accessible significant historical content created by public media.

This is great!

The American Archive of Public Broadcasting, to their eternal glory, have digitized more than 7,000 public radio and television programs from 1940 to the present.

It's a treasure trove of historic newsreels, interviews, speeches, and more.

Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real Bixonimania doesn’t exist except in a clutch of obviously bogus academic papers. So why did AI chatbots warn people about this fictional illness?

Bloody hell. Researchers invented a disease, published two fake papers to see if LLM’s would ingest them and kick them up as fact — and then it broke containment and all the major AI’s bought in. Information pollution.

Chicago Turns All Public School IDs Into Library Cards To Boost Student Access Chicago Public Library and CPS announced the expansion of The 81 Club, building on a pilot launched in 2022 to give students access to the library system's vast collection and databases.

This is such a good idea. We should do this in NYC.

"All Chicago Public Schools students now have access to nearly everything the city’s libraries have to offer — including physical items like books as well as extensive digital resources."

History is cool and I like archives, which are filled with cool and creative people who do cool things. Archivists are creative people and deserve to be treated better than they are by institutions and administrators. Archives should be treasured jewels of educational and cultural institutions.

A flyer taped to a utility pole
It features John Fetterman’s face with the eyes and mouth replaced by elements from American printed money , under the words “call your senator” and “I love bombing children with your money while you can’t afford healthcare “ and “call me” with his office number I assume

Spotted this on a pole behind independence hall. I recently saw someone say they found collage to be the best way to work through things and I didn’t really see it at the time but

Fake references make Waite’s job as a librarian “so much harder,” she added.
