Zia Yusuf currently misleading on #PoliticsLive that more have entered under this government than any other. No one corrected him, why are they continually given a platform to spread their hate?

Good to see this from Ben and hopefully the Today programme will broadcast an on-air correction?

Most interesting bit of the UK public finances data today:

Fuel duty revenues dropped in March to their lowest since July 2023.

Strongly suggests people were buying less petrol petrol last month.

Governments and opposition parties of every stripe are acting as if Britain is still living in the post-Cold War peace dividend. As if our demographics are the same as the 1990s, as if climate change and decarbonisation will not incur massive upfront costs. But Labour, afraid of unpopularity, refused to raise the broad-based taxes needed to do anything about these generational challenges. And while the government hasn’t really fixed anything, at least it’s riding high in the polls!

At least not raising income tax has made Labour popular.

Still of the view that the biggest risk in this whole mess is widespread hunger in poorer countries leading to political instability.

Having already down sized and know a few people currently in the process. It’s difficult doing it alone, without a spouse. And very difficult to process editing your life’s possessions the older you get. So basically the longer you leave it the worse it gets for you and your family.

At a global level, renewables have overtaken coal power for the first time in 100 years.

The rise of solar and wind pushed renewables to 33.8% of global electricity generation.

Coal fell to 33.0% and made up less than a third of global generation for the first time in history.

OMFG I had to go and check that this ACTUALLY happened.

Since when does the BBC ever do chyrons with a political party's branding, rather than their own? Not to mention this is during a pre-election campaign purdah.

Trevor Phillips said on Sky News this morning that "everybody in the country who could read a newspaper" knew in advance of the Mandelson appointment that he was problematic

is this the same Phillips who interviewed Mandelson on October 08 2023 and didn't ask any questions about Epstein friendship?

NEW: Richard Tice failed to pay almost £100,000 in corporation tax, benefiting his investment company which made large donations to Reform UK.

First time Reform's deputy leader's tax affairs can be directly linked to finances of Nigel Farage's party.

So: £98k of corporation tax is due. Plus about £27k of interest

This was a really basic mistake. Everyone in REIT world knows that REIT distributions are taxed - it's not some point only the tax nerds know

That means HMRC are likely to assess penalties for carelessness

When Angela Rayner underpaid £40,000 in stamp duty, Richard Tice said it was "morally completely indefensible” and she should resign if she had “any moral decency”.

Now we learn he set up four shell companies that let him avoid paying £100,000 he owed in tax and to then transfer the cash to Reform
