The American #buffalo — those ornery, hairy prairie beasts that reign as the official mammal of the United States — have joined wind turbines, electric cars and climate researchers in the cross hairs of the Trump administration, reports @insideclimatenews.org.
Does it have to do with the fact that at a school, one is presumably amongst one's peers (and thus maybe more beholden to norms/judgement), while a subway is, in many ways, fairly anonymous?
Pope Leo is the first Pope to have ever experienced the US healthcare system, so there's that
Today being Trans Day of Visibility, if you'd like to support trans people living and fighting alongside allies for their rights in South Dakota, consider donating to the Transformation Project Advocacy Network. As a board member, I can attest it's often an uphill battle, but a critical one!!
Green-card holders no longer qualify for loans from the Small Business Administration, eliminating a longtime source of financing for immigrants that advocates say will discourage job creation and harm the economy.
Today, MSF is going public with something we've been fighting behind closed doors for months: Gilead will not sell us their new HIV drug, lenacapavir.

"Lawmakers seem pretty pleased about offering relief for property taxpayers. There’s a real lack of concern on their part that all of us — regardless of where we live — will end up paying more at the cash register."

It's hard to think about retiring from racing, because mushing is, and will always be, a huge part of my life. So I took a journey with my older dogs, who have retired themselves. They've taught me so much over the years; now, they're teaching me to live with change.

A quilt: Two sleeping colobus monkeys cling to a branch of an African cherry tree. Leaves of the tree and power lines are quilted in the dark blue background in relief. The monkey are shades of blue/white/tan/purple.
The colobus monkeys are quilted and off the longarm. This piece is based on a photo by Mark Luther. The tree is an African cherry trees, as are the leaves in the background. Power lines are also quilted in relief - they are a major cause of falls/death for the monkeys.

But another possibility is that toddlers have concepts of 'same' & 'similar' that are very different from adults. They often require things to be identical before considering them similar, and don't generalize as adults do. So that may be a factor if she interprets "se parece" as an identity copula?
I've only seen a brief excerpt of the book and haven't read it, but I bet Luiz Lopez's Bilingual Grammar (2020) could have insights. In it he makes an argument (among others) that there's consistency in gender agreement across code-switching boundaries, and uses Spanish–German speech as an example.
Lovely thread on some very cool research 🧵
Never before has the time change left me trampled like this. I am nothing before the hooves of arbitrary time. I am dust, and so sleepy
Honestly I never realized Kr*sti N*em ever came back to South Dakota, and now that I know there's a small chance of seeing her in public, I hope [REDACTED]

“When I saw her smile after coming home from work, all my pain disappeared. Now I don’t know what to do with this pain. I don’t know how to live with this.”
“There was nothing left of her. We could only identify her from her school bag, which she was still holding. She was completely burned.”
Rohollah recalls how his daughter wanted to become a doctor.
“She used to tell me, ‘I promise I will become a doctor so you won’t have to pay medical bills anymore.’ I would hold her and say, ‘You are already my little doctor’,” he said.
