But like, what IS fire though?
Trying to out blockade Iran is the dumbest fucking thing Trump could do. My God. Iran is a society hardened by decades of crushing sanctions that's facing an existential threat. In the US people are about to riot because petrol is $1.10 a litre. Tehran can out last you!
Been studying this for twenty years and can confidently say I’ve never heard anyone call Weimar Germany neoliberal.

‼️New study from my lab: proud to share not one but two Bloomberg articles covering our new report on Chinese outbound FDI. We spent the summer painstakingly coding investment across the global south. The results are striking:
GHISLAINE MAXWELL: here we go, boss. a big book of letters from all of your horrible best friends
JEFF EPSTEIN: oh neat! look at this one from Donald
GHISLAINE: that one's fake actually
Liberalism is, in my view, a thoroughly discredited theory of international relations. I do not see how the literature can recover from this, other than to pretend it's not happening-which to be frank, is it's current approach.
Power and the interests of those with it is the only thing that matters in world politics. This has always been the case for the US hegemonic order, but now that it has voluntarily ripped away its own liberal facade this is clear for all to see.
This attack on Qatar, like Israel's attacks on Lebanon, Syria, and Iran -not to mention it's genocidal violence throughout Palestine- spits in the face of the alleged 'liberal' order or the 'rules based order'.
It is astonishing, therefore, how willing the US is to shred the credibility of the LIO myth so comprehensively just to allow Israel to commit any crimes it wants with open impunity.
The so-called 'liberal' international order was always a flimsy facade for the raw power and interests of the US hegemon. But the pretense that global governance was directed by 'rules', and that the US was motivated by ideals, was useful for US soft power and legitimacy.
Love to read the news

"If one of my parents had to die, I would choose you" - my son, unprompted
So sick of these centrist impurity tests. Not everyone can meet your standards of being a huge piece of shit, sometimes you have to just grit your teeth and vote for someone good even if that goes against your principles
More reading to do.
“How drunk are you?” “Hell, how do I know?” Wolfe’s brow lifted. “Gentlemen?” Farrell said, “Mike’s all right. Forget him. He’s all right.” Julius Adler the lawyer, about the build of a lead-pencil stub, looking like a necktie clerk except for his eyes and the way he was dressed, put in, “I would say yes. We realize that this is your house, Mr. Wolfe, and that Mr. Ayers is lit, but after all we don’t suppose that you invited us here to censor our private habits. You have something to say to us?”
“You could have phoned him last night.” “I could not. I got lit last night. This is the first job I’ve had in a month.” “Got any expense money left?” “Enough for a couple of days. I’ve learned self-control.”
i never realized that "getting lit", as in getting drunk, dates back at least to the 1930s

@weakinstrument.bsky.social puts in essay form the key mechanisms described in the 🧵: the crypto/stablecoin & Treasury markets feed on each other in a doom-loop; faced with economic damage the government bails out the miscreants, socialising the costs.
