In case anyone else has these questions I got asked in a PM -Yes, people in the US can join Eurosky. No waiting list, though it took about 12 hours for my invitation to come through.

Just migrated to @eurosky.social. It was simple, and their instructions were great. It took me about ten minutes, and half of that was convincing my password manager to delete my old sign-in. Nice to know my data's hosted in Europe now.

If you don’t stop in mid-sentence to check a thing and then three hours later you’ve learned the entire history of canned food but not finished the sentence, why even be a writer?!

I changed browsers to Vivaldi and search engine to StartPage to get away from AI. Both easy to use. Bonus - both based outside the US (Norway and the Netherlands).

I still have muscle memory for having to reach up to do a carriage return.

Age verification? I learned to type on a manual typewriter.

Brilliant. In every way. Not only astonishing how Shakespeare can speak to every age, but also hearing Sir Ian McKellen brilliantly interpret this rarely heard speech. We need this. Now.

Nevermind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college:

Celtic Civilization
History of Theatre
Russian History
Marine Ecology
Set Design

So, you'll provide stolen books if that's what the libraries ask for. Except that AI stole the books for you and pretended they're original. You know better. Don't fence stolen goods.

I take no leave of you, 2025. I send no compliments to your mother. You deserve no such attention. I am most seriously displeased.

Yes! I'd love to see it.

This 🧵 has a great suggestion about a simple way to quantify the effects of AI on a story. Say, for example, when considering award eligibility.

Great analogy. I think it's exactly what we need to make the limits clear.

And audiobook production, too. Sigh.

Writing a scene where a fae enters my character's dreams, and I'm drinking Faerie Queen tea from @fridaytea.com on a day when the boundaries between Faerie and mortal is supposed to be weakest. Am I asking for trouble? #JAFF

"You are all to come to Pemberley at Christmas" on an image of the Wrest Park library decorated for Christmas

"You are all to come to Pemberley at Christmas..." - Jane Austen. In 1812 there wouldn't have been any Christmas trees there and Wrest Park wasn't built yet, but I can imagine Darcy and Elizabeth here. Image of Wrest Park library. #JAFF #Austenesque

Sockwell has been an eye-opening experience for me. Both as wool I can wear next to my skin and compression socks that don't make me crawl out of my skin.

I appreciate @sfwa.org's board 's apology, but I'd like some transparency. Who was involved & what were they were thinking? They made an opaque decision to support people who stole from their members. If I'm going to trust them to defend my work, I need to know what went wrong this time. #NoGenAI

How can I believe @sfwa.org will stand up for its writer members when it's willing to give Nebulas to people who plagiarize from us? If you do this, you're no longer a writer's association - and I for one won't be renewing my membership. Please rethink this, @sfwa.org.

I really hope you reconsider this. SFWA is a writers association, not an LLM association. This is completely unacceptable in an organization that is supposed to support writers, not the tools that plagiarize from them. You're going to lose a ton of members over this, including me.

Last day for Mr. Darcy's Journey & The Darcys of Derbyshire! Be sure to grab The Darcy Brothers, too - it's a second edition, which meant we lost all our great reviews, but also it won't ever be in KU. Seize your chance to get these #JAFF classics! #Austenesque #JA250 #JaneAusten

I've read the Ladies Occult Society series and really enjoyed it! I should give The Dark Abyss of Our Sins a try. Thanks for the rec!

Sigh. I'm going to try Vivaldi since it seems to be the only browser that's taken an anti-AI stance.

2025 Word of the Year: Slop Plus 'gerrymander', 'touch grass', 'performative', and other words that defined the year
