The progression in society went from "get a life" in the 80s/90s to "get a hobby" around the early 2000s to "get a job" around the mid 2000s. You can practically see what society started valuing in each era....

Boy, it's great when a parent effectively tells you that you have no value in their life yet they still expect you to support them while you're struggling to even start your own life.
