i'm reading through a book contract from a press. it's a press i've worked with before and i've had no complaints. is there anything in particular i should be looking for when i read the contract through? last time i just signed without thinking about it much.

i've been at haverford for roughly 20 years and this is the SIXTH president i've seen leave. i like to do most of my worldbuilding non-hierarchically... but it really does impact how it feels to be at the institution, the constant shaking-up at the top.
a little essay i wrote about attitudes toward punishment, harm, and repair... trying to be nuanced about a topic that many want to reduce to something simple. fight me. (ha.)

saw this local production last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. it's big on ideas and funny as hell. "Chelle, a Black mid-career artist, has written a check that she's not sure her talent can cash. When the city of Baltimore takes down the Confederate monument in the park across the street from..."
how is it that Graeber/Wengrow could write a whole book (The Dawn of Everything) about a hidden indigenous critique in the history of humanity and cite no contemporary indigenous sources? this truly shocks me. oy. physician, heal thyself.
thoughts upon waking, May 12 version: popsicles, but they are lime jello made with pepsi. and yes i would call them pepsicles.
here's $10 off for anyone who has not yet discovered bookshop.org, a great place to buy books online while supporting local bookstores instead of large corporations.
in philly it's officially the season that a large percentage of men have been waiting for, when they can look at unjacketed titties without even trying to hide it. or, as Tennyson said, in my breast spring wakens too; and my regret becomes an april violet, and buds and blossoms like the rest.
just saw Thunderbolts* and (no spoilers) 1) i found it unexpectedly profound in the 2nd half, 2) 2nd best use of Ginuwine's "Pony" in a film, 3) some really great jokes that you'll only get if you know the past of some of the characters. I saw really excellent new movies two weeks in a row.
yesterday while i was trying to write my neighbors were absolutely blasting john denver tunes and so, well, that's how it came to pass that they FILLED UP MY SENSES nonconsensually.
i love that the amazing new @doechii anxiety video references both the gotye video for "somebody that i used to know" that the song samples and the cdk dance company video using the gotye song. that is some SAMPLING.
it's truly amazing how you can look at any still from a wes anderson film and know that it is from a wes anderson film.
This is my go-to meme for the timebeing.
You were made for this.
Last night I dreamt that I was writing a rap but was stalled at trying to find a rhyme for Meister Eckhart.
also, apple tv's The New Look is about the house of Dior (and Chanel, Balenciaga, Balmain, etc) but it's actually about living through fascism. very topical. i recommend it.
woke up this morning with the thought (pertinent to those of us who for some reason call ourselves philosophers) that we're all going to have to decide whether to give the rector's address.
leaving in 2 days to do an external review & haven't received any documentation or a schedule yet, and am the kind of person who cannot handle that level of unpreparedness, so last night i dreamt that i showed up at the hotel & they had set up some pillows for me on some lawn furniture outside. LOL.
i had a dream last night that i had a new friend. it was an owl. i was carrying the owl around on an airplane tray table. that is the whole dream.
I had a dream last night that I was slowly eating the most delicious breakfast potatoes. That was the whole dream.
this new tartan is by the witches of scotland and I want some suiting, STAT.
my neighbors are currently BLASTING james taylor's greatest hits, lol. is this my villain origin story?
it's like this guy grew up worshipping cartoon villians and then became one, but now we're all stuck in the cartoon with him and it is not funny.
lol, looking over my notes from a presentation i gave in which philosopher sextus empiricus came up during the discussion and i jotted down "sextus -- barely knew us" while having a deeply serious conversation about philosophical skepticism and justice.
