I had something similar. Was tasked with using ChatGPT to translate a financial disclosure form to English and then write an article. The thing hallucinated two acquisitions (of real companies), insisted it was there on page 3, and then page 4, then page 5, and then admitted it had made them up.

Latest report of the UN Panel of Experts on Libya finally out. Notable for its explicit focus on key figures (incl. Ibrahim Dabeiba and Saddam Haftar) and massive fraud in the oil and fuel sectors.
Also, some hard facts on EU naval op IRINI's collusion in an arms embargo violation last summer. 1/2

EU military mission #IRINI details training of militia members from #Benghazi. They were "part of the Libyan Navy", it says, with "no record of human rights violations".
How could they know that they didn’t take part in shootings on NGO or refugee vessels?

“…in the end, I think we have to approach human rights issues with certain principles. We have to say something is right, and we stick by what is right”

This is so depressing. I remember some years ago under the Tories, a lawyer mentioned to me she suspected a lot of this was going on. I followed up a few months later and she told me that actually things seemed to be improving/not so bad, which was a nice thing to learn. And now, here we are again.

• Tunisia

1/ The 15th issue of the #ExternalisationBulletin is out now.
This month's bulletin includes a document that is almost laughably horrific. In it, the Council Presidency implores the EU’s main border externalisation committee to *mention* human rights more when dealing with non-EU partner countries.

The French Left is divided (again). But @luciecastets.bsky.social, former PM nominee of the New Popular Front alliance and newly-elected mayor of the 12th arrondissement of Paris, still believes it can and should unite for the 2027 elections and beyond. From Ep 4 of What Do We Want?
Very effective video by @iclaimeu.bsky.social summarising three years of research on the living and working conditions of migrant workers with insecure legal status in Europe in 100 seconds.

Absolutely fascinating read, really helpful for thinking about the incentives for different actors in externalisation projects (as you point out, so much discourse/coverage is focussed only on what the Global North partner wants), thank you writing this
