I wonder what the shortest amount of time is between someone being baptized Catholic and excommunicated because we may be looking at a new record here shortly

During law school, on campus interviews were conducted in hotel rooms. If you wanted a job at one of those firms, you had to go to men's hotel rooms.

It’s infuriating when a woman comes forward about a man raping her in his hotel room after drinking and the response is “Why would she go to his room?” “Why would she drink with him?” This is Mike Pence logic. Women should be allowed to hang out with men without expecting they will be raped.

People who suddenly feel like their transphobic “jokes” and “fairness in sports” takes are a bad look while the government forcibly detransitions people don’t get to say “oh that’s not what I meant!” You did mean it! People told you what it meant and you did it anyways!

Wes Streeting: 'Every trans person deserves safety and respect' Writing for PinkNews, Wes Streeting says he wants to reassure trans youngsters that they have not been forgotten.

We saw it with Streeting in Pink News the other day talking about trans individuals and how much dignity and respect Labour had for them, while imposing the most transphobic policies the UK has had for years. 4/7

Plus, there are so many issues for PoC. My Muslim friend was run over and has spent 2 years fighting in criminal and civil court, but she's well aware of how juries see a brown female victim who works for the NHS against a white male motorist. She's lost her job & is still undergoing many surgeries

Yes, for sure, driving bans should be used. How did the guy who ran over 100s of ppl in Liverpool not get a lifetime driving ban??? Apparently, it's a human right?? Right, because our public transportation means you have to live within 3miles of the city or you get nothing

As someone who believes in abolition, I don't think longer sentences are in order when my experience renting a car a few times / yr are that I'm king of the road in a car. The entry point of 20 mph roads have curves that suggest 40 mph, wide roads near parks mean children, ducks etc are at risk.

After fracturing my knee and going through rehab over 6 months, my physio said I should ride my bike on the pavement BUT I pointed out the problem is with the design of our built environment.

Pregnancy deaths in the NHS at highest level for two decades
Eleanor Hayward - Health Editor, Rosie Taylor
Women dying during pregnancy, labour or soon after giving birth is at the highest level for two decades despite the NHS receiving dozens of recommendations to act on lifethreatening symptoms.

Analysis by The Times found the NHS was issued with 67 warnings between 2013 and 2023 to take signs of potentially fatal complications in mothers seriously.

Over the same decade, there was a 50 per cent rise in the UK’s maternal death rate — deaths in pregnancy, childbirth, or the six weeks after giving birth — from 8.54 per 100,000 pregnancies in 2013 to 12.80 in 2023. The last time the rate was this high was in 2005.

The most recent available data shows 257 women died in the two years to 2023. The biggest killer was blood clots, followed by heart problems, suicide, stroke, sepsis and severe bleeding.

Over the past decade, a series of reviews have issued 748 recommendations for improving NHS maternity services across 59 official reports. One in ten recommendations were aimed at preventing women dying.

Analysis shows hospitals have been told 23 times to promptly assess and treat women experiencing blood clots and strokes. They were also told 13 times to take reports of severe pain seriously, 12 times to act on signs of severe bleeding, ten times to be aware of heart conditions in women, and nine times to ensure maternity staff recognise signs of sepsis. There have also been 31 recommendations to improve mental health and support services.

Campaigners said hospitals were inundated with recommendations but not given funding to act on them.

A national maternity inquiry is due to deliver its findings in the summer.

I fully believe that 99% of us who keep thinking about how cool it would be to go to space would straight up lose our minds and have a nervous breakdown if we ever experienced what being there is like

For 23 years, WA has detained a man for a crime he can’t understand Washington taxpayers spend more than $500,000 a year to hold a man with an intellectual disability on McNeil Island. He’s been sexually abused for decades in state custody.

Torture is routine in the US, and legal. We do it to prisoners.

every time i write about wage theft i do a double take because it's so crazy

corporations steal more than $50 bn from workers' paychecks each year, illegally paying workers less than they earned for their labor

that significantly exceeds the combined losses from larceny, burglary, & vehicle theft

"Cake not Hate."

Worshippers at the Glasgow mosque were delighted to meet Josh and sample his cakes.

One man said: It’s so nice to see a unique initiative like this, a young boy fostering better relationships.

“I think many more mosques should invite him over.”

The academic center is one of the most elite hubs of scientific development in the Middle East. Destroying universities and schools is not justifiable. Such attacks are violations of a nation’s human capital, commitment to development, and the fundamental principles of international law. 2/2

When AI advocates say, 'oh we just need to use AI responsibly, it can help humanity and improve accessibility and lead to new discoveries!', one must remember that the motor vehicle, which is piloted by humans, is responsible for around 1.3 million deaths and over 40 million injuries per year.

You can choose to be statistically illiterate in a time when experts are respected, but we're way past that. I'm sorry, but it's true. It might be time for everybody interested in fighting AI fascism to realise almost all the words they use are weasel words. Not just "intelligence", every word.
