#CPERN Mid-term Workshop @University of Helsinki

Glad to be part of a community where politics and knowledge are openly claimed as inseparable and where the myth of neutrality is exposed for what it is: a convenient alibi for the machinery of power.

Thrilled to have presented my paper "Interregnum, Polycrisis, and Liquid Modernity" at the Critical Political Conference in Helsinki!

Helsinki was absolutely stunning – a blend of Nordic serenity, and the magical late-summer light reflecting off the Baltic Sea. The perfect atmosphere for deep critical dialogue!

The conference brought together truly inspiring scholars whose insights on global instability were both humbling and energizing. Discussing crises of democracy, ecology, and capitalism with such brilliant minds reaffirmed why spaces like CPC are vital.

My paper wove together three pivotal concepts:
1️⃣ Interregnum (Gramsci): Our "time between orders," where old systems collapse but new ones haven’t crystallized.
2️⃣ Polycrisis (Morin, Edgar & Tooze, Adam): Overlapping crises (climate, inequality, pandemics, war) amplifying each other. It’s not just multiple problems; it’s systemic entanglement.
3️⃣ Liquid Modernity (Bauman, Zygmunt): Our social structures, identities, and power are fluid, unstable, and elusive.

Grateful to the organizers, fellow presenters, and engaged attendees for fierce yet generous debates. Onward! ✊

Thank you Prof. Teivo Teivainen for showing us the city & finnish history! Thank you Yuliya Yurchenko Silke Trommer Bernd Bonfert Madalaine Moore for organzing this great event!
