This is a snapshot of the failure of MSM and the concomitant ignorance within the American electorate about what is happening in and to their country.

Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

@michellegoldberg.bsky.social reports on an amazing anecdote among people celebrating Orban's defeat. I used it here to argue that liberals and Dems have a good case to make in response to Vance/MAGA's effort to claim "Western civilization" as exclusively theirs. 6/

As JD Vance's speech showed, MAGA thinks of itself as global. What would it look like if liberals and Dems laid out *their* vision of our shared international future more forcefully, and contrasted it with Vance's?

Here's a start at what this might look like. 5/

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

The organised collective refusal of extractive AI within the US can also be complemented
by using the academic shared governance system to place roadblocks in the way of
Al, including by exploiting faculties’ primary responsibility for curricula, methods
of instruction, academic standards and degree requirements, the making of campus
policies and cooperation with accreditation agencies. The introduction of AI can be
slowed, impeded or derailed by protecting academics’ freedom to choose whether to
use it in their classes and research. The shoring up of academic freedom in the US is
urgently needed as staff and students face discriminatory censorship and, for non-
citizens, Immigration and Customs Enforcement abductions and deportations (Thomas
2025). There have been significant attacks on academic freedom through crackdowns
on anti-Zionist campus activism, including through the Department of State’s use of AI
to revoke student visas based on scans of news reports and social media activity (Caputo
2025). Campus workers, such as counsellors, disability service providers, diversity and
other support staff, and lower middle managers who work closely with marginalised
students, can protect these services by defining examples of automation that have
proven ineffective, alienating and discriminatory (Weinberg 2024).

The most damaging episodes were the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, which Miller was at the center of.
During his 10am calls with immigration leaders, Miller was demanding agents be sent out to areas in Minneapolis where DHS knew there was a heavy presence of protesters to 'force confrontations,' two DHS senior sources told the Daily Mail.
One official noted that Miller repeatedly urged agents to engage protesters so the administration could win the 'PR battle.'

During Trump's massive immigration crackdown in in Los Angeles in June, the President spoke with top officials and told them to avoid targeting farm workers. The next day at 10am, Miller sent out different orders.
'Stephen got on the call the next day, and said "We're discussing that internally" and that we should just disregard what he said,' one official told the Daily Mail. 'It was like the President never said anything. It was just like Stephen was in charge.'

Attacks on Stephen Miller getting far more specific in this Daily Mail (why are the best right-on-right hitjobs always laundered thru the UK?).

1) He ordered confrontation w/protestors b4 CBP murdered Alex Pretti.
2) He countermanded Trump order not to focus on farmworkers.
