There will be no peace to keep until a peace is enforced, and EU/UK is currently the only power capable of doing that. We need to step up.
Why is everybody so surprised? This has been going on a daily basis in Finland and Northern Norway for several years. The local pilots adapted long ago, navigate without GPS, like during the first 100 years of aviation.
No. Poland and Czechoslovakia had always existed in these peoples' heads as "real nations" since they were born, therefore they were readily admitted to the EU and NATO, while Ukraine was rejected. I think the same mentality led Neville Chamberlain to betray then 20-year old Czechoslovakia in 1938.
They always treated, and probably viewed, Ukraine and Belarus as second rate nations, their independence being somehow an accident of history, someting that would be corrected sooner or later. I.e., exactly the view of many contemporary Russians.
That is why we are where we are now.
I am convinced that a lot is happening under the radar between Europe and Ukraine now, and that is good.

Obama is one of the main culprits for the current situation. His weak response to Russia's 2014 invasion of Crimea and Donbas, plus his refusal to help Ukraine arm even after that invasion practically served as an invitation to Putin to go further. Which he did. Trump is now doing the same mistake.
