I was doing some research and came across this incredible project that is a reconstruction of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital upon which Mexico City was built. The slider interface to see the before and after are excellent.

It will really maintains a sense of grounding to see such a wide summary and not the onslaught of piecemeal updates
