As a kid growing up not able to eat dairy/eggs in the 80s, it was my great grandparents who seemed to have no issue baking basically vegan treats for me & felt really special. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized it was likely due to depression/ration era knowledge. I still make these today!

Basically CP is trying to push more gig work style conditions with more staff on lower wages, no benefits/vacation, no confirmed schedule, etc. Which is a bad precedent to set and is being opposed by both casuals and permanent workers.

There is a disagreement over how the weekend shifts would be staffed, but they’re not opposed to it. CP wants to bring in 8hr a week casuals on a lower wage to cover sat delivery whereas the workers argue it can be staffed with regular permanent staff/making casuals permanent.

When I learned that the understanding of Christianity that took hold/what we have now was the one that was popular amongst the Roman military, so many things fell into place. Especially how more communal, gender equitable, radical etc expressions of the faith seemed to have gotten lost.

All I can say is that I genuinely hope you get the solidarity you’ve not been able to show others when inevitably you’re in the same boat. Good luck.

The fact that other workers have it worse so don’t ask for more is not an argument I can accept as a worker. I want CUPW to win so we *all* win. If CP can fuck the pension and dismantle permanent employment then that is what is coming for the rest of us.

This is why they are striking. CP wants to bring in lower paid casuals, effectively gig work, to break the gains workers have made which will ripple out to other sectors and workers. In the same way that automation concerns that ILWU has is a concern for other workers.

This makes me think you may not be aware of the demands? The fact is many Canada post employees don’t have it better than most because the corporation is keeping more and more people casual so that they don’t get the same rate of pay, access to benefits, vacation, a reliable schedule, etc.

Or turning down a contract from Amazon while at the same time complaining they can’t compete. It feels strange to me that you would say you are pro-union when you have used your time on this app to almost exclusively attack striking workers that are supported by many other sector unions.

It has changed, sure. However this has not stopped management from holding back or slowing down mail during route assessments, or not filling empty inside work positions to the point of other workers injuring themselves in attempt to keep up.
