It’s hard to see but there’s actually a big owl nest in that large cactus.

Some more photos from my first Partnership Retreat at my new firm that I haven’t had time to post for like a month. I chose to do horseback riding as my activity and got to ride the lovely Frank.

Normally employment law presentations can be a tad boring, but I was amazed to see so many members of the audience taking notes and even laughing at my terrible law jokes.

So, if you have a group that would benefit from a presentation on employment law, litigation, space law, let me know.

Which is why having good proactive, versus reactive, HR practices and payroll monitoring in place is more important than ever before. An ounce of compliance prevention can save a pound of litigation pain.

Wage and hour issues are becoming a large concern for the entire Californian construction industry given SB 597 (tagging direct/general contractors for wage and hour violations of their subcontractors) and AB 1002 (contractor licenses can be revoked for failing to pay wage and hour judgments).

Two of my most favorite work wear items (blouse and dress) are Stitch Fix pre-2020 Calvin Klein and I’ve never seen anything similar on Stitch Fix or Calvin Klein again and I just really want more of whatever this was from whoever designed it.

Best comment from the presentation I gave today: You are the coolest lawyer I have ever met.

It’s weird that good coffee and good donuts exist but no one location has both.

A restaurant near me used to provide a free rolled swedish pancake with jam with every meal. It was the best.

I have so many cases (over 10) in the middle of settlement negotiations right now that statistically some of them have to settle, right?

Honestly, it seems like a lot of work to sexually assault or harass someone.

And car battery apparently decided to die last night. Somewhat confirmed this morning. So that’s fun for Easter. And our internet was out all yesterday so I’m behind on work and looks like I have to cancel my Monday networking plans.

I delayed getting seats at the beggining of my ticket window because I was busy and wasn’t sure if nosebleeds were better than TV. Still ended up with not great, but not the cheapest seats since a lot were sold out.

I booked whale watching tickets. I was like you know what, I keep saying we should go so why not just go.

Managed to score tickets to 3 Olympic final events for the LA games: Women’s Steeplechase, Women’s Flag Football, and Individual Equestrian Jumping! (Could have got tickets for 2 more events, but DAMN- SO EXPENSIVE for things like skateboarding. Also hoping to go to a few Paralympics events.)

I went from thinking Disneyland for my birthday to thinking spa day to thinking whale watching and I’m just like I don’t actually know what I want to do other than drink good beverages and eat yummy things in proximity to doing other things.

Boys Wanna Be Her YouTube video by PeachesTV - Topic

Also, I got to pick my walk up song for my new partner introduction and I went with (despite my husband warning it was too racy) Boys Wanna Be Her: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9kg... (Truly a dream come true and the song I play in my head before each morning of trial.)

Not to mention I got to catch up on some "work" reading, pet an owl, ride a horse, and get a personalized cowboy hat (my first one ever)!

Last week was my firm's Partnership Retreat. It was an amazing experience. I learned so much about my firm and I now know so much more about our firm's different practice areas. Need someone who does [fill in the blank]? I probably know someone at my firm who does that.
