The youngest #kakapo alive: Awarua-A3, 17 days old today. Despite appearances, she’s doing well. She won’t be leaving the nest until mid-June. It’s a long breeding season! #kakapo2026 #conservation #birds.
FFS. Nothing takes me out of a film faster than failure to even do the most basic research. The Statue of Liberty is on an ISLAND. It is not buried in a jaunty angle in the sand.
Photo of the South of Scotland regional ballot paper for the Scottish election on 7th May 2026. Added text identifies the "INDEPENDENT GREEN VOICE" as "NOT the Green Party" and "SCOTTISH GREEN PARTY" as "The actual Green Party".
Anyone who received their postal ballot today in the South of Scotland region, please be aware that "Independent Green Voice", which appears second on the list on the peach regional ballot paper, is NOT the Scottish Green Party. This is in fact a deliberate vote spoiling attempt by right-wingers.
Hard to pick just one…
Let’s go for “Goat Light”
The Prince In Waiting by John Christopher – stylised cover in reds and greens with soldiers in armour before a walled city with a head on a spike over its gate
Radio Times September 1984 cover – The Tripods Are Coming, with towering metal Tripod travel machine
OYD* 1922: Sam Youd (John Christopher)
Writer of many dystopian novels, compelling to young me not just for his grim worldbuilding but their sour endings
Most famous for The Tripods Trilogy, later a BBC1 series with an infamously (accidentally) bleak finish
*Yesterday, but…
Thank goodness there wasn’t a Superman V…
You ever notice how in the Superman the Movie poster, he's got one fist out, and on Superman II he's got two fists out? Well BUCKLE UP, I gave him three and four fists for Superman III and Superman IV, respectively. Hilarious!
They're cowards for not doing this.
Skeptics with a K: Episode #460
Mike looks at ball lightning, why there is so little evidence of it, and asks whether it exists at all.
**Note: tonight's Skeptics in the Pub will be in the Denbigh Castle on Hackins Hey in central Liverpool.**

Have you ever been criticised in public for using a Blue Badge? I’m looking to gather disabled people’s experiences for The Guardian to explore hostility around the Blue Badge and Motability schemes.
We’ve made a quick form you can fill in here: www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a... (Please share.)
One might say many things aboUt Scottish Labour's decision to stand on a transphobic plstform (and many of them would get hidden in the 'other posts' section here), but there's one key thing that I think is being missed...
a journalist actually asking difficult questions of a transphobic politician? in Scotland? waow
For the avoidance of doubt, following the publication of the explicitly transphobic Scottish Labour manifesto this morning, I will not be campaigning for any Scottish Labour candidates in the upcoming election, and I will not be voting Scottish Labour either.

Gwen and Rhys head of down the hill with their arms around each other, huddling together against the cold. Before them, distant red and orange lights glow in the dark.
It's the end of the week, and although some kids and a whole building full of public servants are dead, we all learn that even the ones who walk away from Omelas discover that the real Omelas was inside them all along.

Are we sure that the “F” stands for “For” and not something else?

This year's #kakapo breeding season has been the biggest on record:
- 256 eggs (252 in 2019)
- 148 fertile eggs (116 in 2019)
- 105 eggs hatched (86 in 2019).
It'll be 2+ months until we know how many chicks will fledge (73 in 2019). There are currently 95 alive. #conservation #kakapo2026 #birds
When Dr Who was axed by the BBC in 1969, no one expected Verity Lambert and former Crossroads writers Letts and Dicks to bring it back for ITV.
Cliff Richard was grounded on earth with his faithful hovercraft, Bessie and UNIT headquarters were based under Birmingham's Spaghetti Junction. #DoctorWho

I can't stop laughing at this post. It's perfect.
I'm one of those trans women. I worked ground ops for Artemis I.
I am torn between celebrating the success of my friends and peers and grieving how my dream of working for NASA was shattered by hateful assholes in Tallahassee
Some entirely secular good wishes Mark! Hope all is well.
Does Bob Geldof like Cybermen?
Hard to say, but he fucking hates Mondas.

The time it takes to write a joke, from conception to birth, is the jestation period.
Ohhhh yes :)
I adore it, even the gurning conclusion. Liz is brilliant, The all film look is lovely, and it’s genuinely terrifying in places.

Actually come to think of it I’m getting Strax vibes from the fourth pic too.
I like that third picture - didn’t know BG was into Auton cosplay.
Wonderful actor and sadly missed.
