“Several years ago, nephrologists attempted a first-of-its-kind effort: remove race from a key clinical algorithm, and attempt to undo the harms… A new study found the change had big results, impacting 27% of Black patients and resulting in 5.3 more transplants per 1000 Black candidates.”

Btw — For me, journey maps are for stakeholder communication not creative meaning making. This makes it a good candidate for automating production.
What do others think?
But today, I connect interview transcripts + user research report to Claude Cowork and it takes 1.5 hours.
So, would I bill 10? 1.5 human hours + 7.5 AI hours with human oversight?
If you asked me two weeks ago how long it takes to draft, peer review, draft a user journey, I would tell you 10 hours.
10 hours has been my standard for this since 2016.
Things like this are always a guess but you do it enough and delegate it enough, you know 10 hours is generally good enough.
What are ways people are navigating time and materials contracts? Especially for creative/UX work.
For my fellowship with the @softwaresaved.bsky.social this year, I’ll be seeding connections between the worlds of creative computation and academic computing.

I've known too many wonderful people who have struggled with mental health issues alone, in silence, and have found they couldn't keep going. Please don't feel like you have to mask for the people around you. Reach out: I promise they care. And if you're in crisis, help is available. You matter.
A laurel tree with many long twisting branches. Two of them look like arms. It stands in a misty field with more trees in the fog.

Infinity of sand leading lines from the beautiful desert in UAE…

As light fades, it sculpts our world, elevates it into the sublime. Namibia's dunes are transformed into a magical combination of shapes and textures and, wind, the final touch, lifts sand into the light.

Curiosity and attention are behaviors that allow us to disengage from the rapid-fire chaos cycle and stay grounded.
Medium and subject are not really important. Find something interesting and let it take over your mind for a bit. Enjoy the refreshment! 🌿

A beautiful assortment of the magnificent dead trees of Deadvlei contrast against a red dune, clothed in Namibia's warm twilight. A surreal, uniquely beautiful scene, so typical of this special country!

A calm lakeside scene at night features a vivid aurora borealis with a strong red hue across the star-filled sky. Below, a line of silhouetted pine trees borders the still lake, with scattered houses along the shoreline illuminated by warm yellow and orange lights. The lights reflect on the smooth water, adding vertical streaks of color. Thin, dark clouds stretch horizontally across the sky, partially diffusing the aurora’s glow.

A blooming rose, cream colored petals with a hint of pink at the very tips of several of the petals.
I don't know what I might have done to have this rosebush gift me with this lovely rose in the middle of November, but here it is. On the South Shore of Long Island, New York.
These rock forms from Northern Norway always draw me in. The soft curves feel almost like a quiet pulse in the landscape..

.. Bluesky is my social media of choice for the rest of 2026. Seems best for real connections and sharing nature pics (a few from San Diego/La Jolla last week for #JupyterCon2025)
