I do both when the situation calls for it. Sometimes they catch me on the right day.
Itâs okay. My mission to change the stigma in black mental health will not be deterred
Me trying to gather myself before I crash out...
Iâm an LMSW in a school setting and I provide mental health services across the population. Prior to that, I worked in the youth and community development field. End game is to earn my C because I want to start a private practice. Welcome!
I didnât realize how pervasive it was until I started observing my upperclassman the last couple of weeks.
Just because someone keeps coming back to you doesnât mean youâre special.. it could mean you lack boundaries and they know youâll always welcome them back with open arms.
If you could recommend one podcast to your clients to listen to, what would it be?

Any recommendations?
Weâre half way done with the week, what do you to stay grounded to get yourself through the rest of the week?

I love this! Itâs breaking down the idea of what therapy is supposed to look like. I think about the question I posted because I have to remind myself every day that Iâm someoneâs first intro into a mental health space, so who and what do I project to them.
What does showing up for yourself look like? Genuinely interested in your response.
Thanks for mentioning the #Blacksky feeds @stokel.bsky.social on @newscientist.bsky.social
Chris was the first journalist to interview me about Blacksky and is still the only one that seemed to really get it.
Because it represents beef we have with people that actually donât bring nothing to the table.
As a #blacktherapistssky, how do you bring your authentic self into your work?
As a #bipocsocialworksky, why did you choose to enter into this field?
Iâm more bothered that she was never called out on her bs by her friends. The few times they tried to she gaslit them into thinking their school of thought was wrong. If you canât be honest with your homegirls, are you really friends?
When I first watched it in the 90âs as a kid (tv on mute so my mom couldnât hear) I idolized her to the point where I was gifted a MacBook so I could be a writer. Watching now, Carrie projected her insecurities on to all of her friends. I think Sam and Charlotte had better main character energy.
If youâre referring to Carrie Bradshaw, then let the conversation begin!
We need your voice!
This is how I feel about German Shepherds. Itâs no way you can convince that me theyâre not still carrying around that hate towards us.
I play my hardcore rap and trap music on my way to work to get me through the morning hellos and then before my first sessions of the day I listen to some Black Girl Lofi music. Depending on the how day goes itâll stay on a hip hop playlist or smooth rnb.
When Iâm with students (high school age) I let them be the DJ. My Spotify is pretty eclectic because of them. On my own, I try to play the most appropriate Black music in my office to drown out my counterparts.
To my Social Workers out there, what field are you currently in? Iâm the school field with an emphasis on mental health #bipocsocialworksky
When I work with students on this, I first have them tell me when the test is and then I use the session(s) to help them become âexpertsâ in the content. If they can explain it out loud theyâre more likely to retain in.
