I am most interested in getting a good chunk of CLYC and making a compact spectroscopic neutron detector. But I need to figure out the electronics and interface first.

I have access to a variety of old instrumentation and scintillators and PMTs in my lab at work but I don’t have all the documentation on most of it so i have been reluctant to mess with any of it. Especially since I don’t have a good interface for a PC.

What is that MCA/amplifier/preamp setup you use? I have a ton of nice PMTs collecting dust at work and I wouldn’t mind making a nice spectrographic scintillator like that to help me characterize my sources for calibration.

I also don’t really have a good idea though, and I’m not a physicist.

I would not expect the beta decay energy of Cs-137 to produce such a clear X-ray peak like that but I really only have experience with cs-137 configured as gamma sources. Bremsstrahlung usually gets smeared out over more wavelengths due to varying depth of interaction and angle of incidence.
