haven't been on this site in probably a year BUT: my book and several others that I really love are currently available for free, and you should pick them up for all your trans reading needs

two women in a black room lit by red light
a man drives a car at twilight in Los Angeles while a woman rides with her eyes closed
A woman makes a glamorous entrance through a curtain wall
A woman lies down in the dirt surrounded by grass and flowers
The degree to which The Neon Demon is for the sickos cannot be overstated
the thing that bothers me is that "extreme horror" isn't a vague vibe, it's a subgenre, with its own specific conventions. if you don't want your stories to have excessive violence or animal death or deal with graphic scenes that's fine, but it's not extreme horror!!
I will never forget the one submission call that wanted gothic romance but "no incest"
so few places want anything that's actually challenging or upsetting or knows how to navigate that and it drives me up a wall. if you're going to ask for horror you should be prepared to take on stuff that makes you feel bad!!
I don't do a lot of submitting short stories but when I was sending one around it was SO hard to find a *horror magazine* that would accept a story with explicit violence to animals. I'm sorry but that's ridiculous!!
Barely a vaguepost because this happens constantly but I just don't feel like you can put out a submission call for "extreme horror" specifically and then list a bunch of things you don't want in it that you find too far. especially if those things are frequent in the genre
we love to see it!!!
having a rough one but if i believe in anything now it's in making my body mine and trying to live a life that's tolerable so. we keep goin
probably going to go into a slightly unmanageable level of debt for it but I guess I gotta get the hysterectomy ASAP huh
sick as hell!!!
what bothers me so much about this beyond the obvious is at that point it's. easier to put the meat up than leave it out, surely. you have to actively ignore that you haven't put it up yet
oh my god??
every time I'm reminded that some people put actual stock in awards opinions?? it's so boring
You don’t have to take HRT or get surgeries to be trans, but remember that the anti-trans movement is moving mountains to try and prevent your access to those things—pursuing medical transition in one form or another is a subversive act, not a conformist one.
I find it totally unbearable when a genre story stops dead to have some fantasy princess be like "pronouns are important!" in the most straightforward internet-speak terms possible. On a craft level it destroys momentum and believability, and socially, you aren't reaching anyone that way.
we've been working on this fish tank for a couple months now and it's reached the point where i've just mail-ordered some snails to kill the current, more annoying snails that I hate
yeah, I do agree with that! It's not a moral thing at all, but people clearly feel the need to defend themselves as morally right/just as good for not being well read, and I don't respect that defensiveness. it's silly!
going to start being really mean and say it's not, actually, okay to reread a children's book ten times and nothing else as a grown adult
"dark academia"
unfortunately I wanted mickey 17 to be way more fucked up and way less cute than it was but I knew exactly how it would go walking in so I can't be too disappointed
like the issue here is that cis people widely do not believe or understand us in any way, and aren't actually cool with us!
people love to say that they're fine with trans people, they're just "not sure about the sports thing", except as soon as you dig into that they'll start talking about "biological males"
Debbie Harry in VIDEODROME
watched CRASH tonight. they're saying i'm the most normal guy to ever exist
it's very important for normal reasons
happy thursday. today I'm thinking about brandon cronenberg's INFINITY POOL, a movie I think about a normal amount,
people believe it so wholeheartedly! it sucks to see/hear it suddenly from someone you've followed or known for a while, as if it's a serious idea and not hyper-conservative bs
