More context and depth is good. But journalism exists to inform, not provide “emotional reassurance”

Hahaha TY for the compliment

I know media literacy is in the gutter just based on the pure delight students express when they realize I like having analytical conversations about comics/reality tv/sports/movies/etc. People are starved for (perceived) thoughtful insights on media

The Jackson estate can't hide Leaving Neverland from those who've already seen it A suppressive legal battle turned the moving Sundance documentary Leaving Neverland into a ghost haunting the Michael Jackson biopic.

The only film about Michael Jackson you need is the one his estate is hiding from you.

Number go up Our charts tell the story of oligarchy in overdrive.

AI lobbying is skyrocketing. Meta spent more on lobbying in 2025 than America’s three largest oil and gas companies combined.

By 2030, data centers will consume as much energy as 41 million US homes.

What would a United-American merger mean for the airline industry and its customers? Experts say a merger is unlikely but talks are reportedly happening

"'The idea that we would have one airline responsible for four out of ten flights every day is beyond horrific,' William McGee, an aviation and travel fellow at the American Economic Liberties Project, said to CNN."

Where Are All The Female Stoner Films? - Film Inquiry Seth Rogen is famous for his dude-ish stoner films. But with more women claiming their love for weed in reality, why are they so removed from stoner movies?

I found this to be an interesting response to the same question:

oh yeay! TY!

Wait, I have no memory of them getting high on "Broad City" ... but that sounds right lol

(I mostly remember Abbi Jacobson's character being anxious tho ... was she getting high or was it just Ilana Glazer's character?)

Someone else mentioned "Wayne's World" which has the sensibility of a stoner movie but is not (to me anyway) a stoner movie if they aren't spending time getting high? I don't know if it's a morally regressive SNL choice or what, but they could easily just be interpreted as airhead goofballs

Stoner sensibility maybe? But I don’t think we ever see them partake

(But regardless, the two main characters are dudes!)

Paramount+ is making 4/20 an occasion worth celebrating with the streaming premiere of Cheech & Chong's Last Movie, debuting on the Paramount+ Premium plan on April 20, 2026.

To mark the occasion, Paramount+ is home to an expansive unofficial collection of stoner films and comedy that spans five decades of counterculture laughs. From the duo's own vintage catalog to the slacker comedies, road trip disasters and music-soaked coming-of-age stories they helped inspire, the library runs deep—including the full Jackass franchise, both Wayne's World films, the Beavis and Butt-Head features, Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob and stand-up specials from Pete Davidson, Ron Funches and Dan Soder. Whether it's the mellow drift of Almost Famous, the reggae soul of Bob Marley: One Love or the proudly lowbrow chaos of Strange Wilderness, there's something here for every variety of enthusiast.

If this list is any indication, I’m struck by the absence of women toplining stoner movies

Is there one starring women that I’m not thinking of?

They were!

(Which is fine! That’s just not what “The Pitt” is doing, which is also fine!)

That's I think where people got it twisted.

She was giving a PERSPECTIVE on how to think about our relationship to stuff.

And people thought she was giving a 10 point plan that you needed to follow to the letter.

I've been thinking about the backlash Marie Kondo got and I think part of it was not just that she was saying "buy less shit" she was explicitly say "only buy what actually makes you happy" and in a nation of conspicuous consumption it pissed people off.

I really like this because it reinforces the idea that any task (creative or otherwise) needs a certain amount of discipline/stamina — sticking with it even when it’s not fab, that’s a discipline! — and that part becomes habitual

Yep! When I was teaching sketch comedy one of my first lessons was start writing something even if it’s nonsense, and finish it. Halfway through you’ll have a better idea; don’t start that, jot it down somewhere and finish what you’re writing, so you start to train yourself to actually end things.

The form of the sloppy Photoshop also clearly signifies its intent as a joke. You see it and immediately understand it's not supposed to be serious. That just makes it inherently better as a medium IMO

a young man in a suit and tie is looking down . ALT: a young man in a suit and tie is looking down .

Watching“The Firm” again — for so many aesthetic and thematic reasons, it’s so rich and fun to watch — and it’s really the quintessential Tom Cruise performance, more than Jerry Maguire: Dazzling, intense, a man with something to prove, but also regret and real vulnerability. Human not superhuman
