It was one of the first flash animations I remember watching on a 56k modem. Not that there was much nostalgia for it but huge in a formative year butterfly effect kind of way that I recognize now.

I too spite played it to try and give it a fair shake. I do try and get all my FF games on pc for the fabled play/replay of them all from the bottom up which will happen sometime when I retire.
The look how linear was a curtain pull. A distillation of other problems that highlights the linearity. Yes most games are linear but other aspects hide that linearity and do things to make you not notice. FF-XIII did such a poor job of that there was no illusion to shatter.

I think calling them heat pumps, as if it's a new thing, does more harm than good politically/perceptively. Keeping the name similar makes it more digestible since it's a similar tech. New name = new tech.
