Molting

Yesterday I spoke at a high school in Calgary, giving the students a quick rundown of my creative career and things I wish I'd known when I was their age.

Here's a summary of key points I covered:

• My career is nothing like what I envisioned when I was young, but key parts of it shaped my future.

Timelapse! It was originally supposed to be upside down, but after looking at it the other way around for 40 hours I went with this way up instead. :)

Procreate timelapses spread out the early hours and speed up the late ones, which really obscures how 85% of this was just hair and scales.

Are there any mutuals here I can ask questions on how to price some illustration licensing for visual display/game? (Not merch).

I have one table where I track all the different projects I've signed up for as a general overview.
And then I have separate tables for the tasks of each project so I'll know what needs to get done next :)

Artists, please don't undersell your work, especially when working with big clients.
It not only devalues your own work, but it sets a precedent that will affect the other artists that the client will hire after you.
If you're unsure, please speak with your colleagues, mutuals or do some research. 🙏

Wanted to share some encouraging data on the indie games job market.

Still not great out there, but we're seeing positive signals:

🚀 New studios ↑ 59% YoY

Also, the market is increasingly global:

🌍 US share of traffic is trending down: 45% → 41% → 36%
