This has been happening to me for a few updates now, still happens on the latest update. I found that if I hit enter in the body of the msg then it’ll let me hit send…it’s random in terms of when it happens…

Thanks for sharing this document, @rweingarten.bsky.social.

I read it, and I believe it's inexcusably inadequate and will not prepare teachers or schools to confront the very real dangers of the "A.i." products pushed by your partners, including OpenAI.

A few thoughts for your consideration...

I was gonna say this term is useful for when white guys feel sad about their fav app changing, but this is a fantastically way better description! 👏👏👏

Honestly, I’m not surprised. Those LMS platforms have every byte of our activities as students and teachers from them. Still horrible. But, start asking more questions of what your school does with their LMS data…

They just updated the msg…which feels even more strange, or carefully planned all along.

there are videos that show its clear that users know that the govt concerns for privacy are bs & that every US app has the same level of privacy issues. i feel like users understand the futility of privacy here, so they want their agency & communities if that's the only thing they can have

TikTok deemed a threat to national security, but Musk is fine. Sure. Makes sense.

I used to work in corp retail & procurement. These things cost so much $$$. All to understaff & reduce payroll. If they just had a proper inventory team to detail receive goods & stock before/after hours, they’d have a better handle on shrink, not to mention more people available to help customers.

It’s on purpose at this point. It is too obvious for someone to ask, hey, do our gov websites share sensitive data with the tech bros? We should check? Nah? Just ignore it all? Ok!

Sigh. Is no place safe? What browser can I use that doesn’t want to force made up guessing on me? Because now Duck Duck Go is trying it. I already shut it off, but I just want the nonsense to end…

"...so the agency is permanently banning the company “from using any health information for most advertising purposes.”"

the fact it isn't completely illegal to ever use health info for targeted ads is just absurd.

Indeed. I had some understanding of some history of eugenics and stats, but not to this level. Def need to get up to speed via Ruha Benjamin, and then dive in deeper to join the fight!

Been meaning to read this book, and now it's clear I need to hurry up. Reading the excerpt in your post I just was screaming in my head "Pearson? As in Pearson Correlation?"

“For the purposes of this study, the researchers narrowed the emotional states to six categories: joy, fear, neutral, anger, sadness, and disgust.”

Ah, yes, the sound of neutral emotion…

"But the disappointed humanities student at the university in the Northeast is unconvinced."

"disappointed humanities student" needs to at least be printed on a shirt...

singling out humanities in that example doesn't feel random, of course...

"Ellucian, an educational technology company, argues that “facial recognition can give students better service and security” by rendering the need to carry a student ID obsolete."

Eliminating carrying a single object is one of my fav arguments for why spending millions on surv tech is justifiable

Hypothetical deaths don't manage to stir empathy, nor do the actual deaths. But, let's try this Dicken's approach and send them a ghostly automaton to see if that moves the needle...

The pain I am continuously experiencing since I updated acrobat is that the page navigation is in the bottom right hand corner, after what may be likely decades of it being top left for me. I’m struggling to acquire the muscle memory mapping & just keep thinking that you can’t jump to pages anymore

i've spent like maybe 20 mins looking at the patent on this & the tech is using ultra wideband radio frequencies to determine when a device is within range to facilitate air/namedrops. my tinfoil hat brain is wondering if this would trigger an alert when other devices that use UWB are tracking you?

Hate this! I took your class because you designed & crafted it with such passion & care. Selfishly, I wish the pandemic never happened just to have had more time. You made a large class feel intimate (mine at R were maybe 5 people.) I’d take all your classes if I could. Sorry this is so crappy 💙💙💙
