Seems like the page you link to doesn't exist or may not widely accessible? www.nature.com/research-int... is giving me a 404. Would definitely be interested in reading it. Thanks.
Neat to learn more about how this place works.
Cistanthe grandiflora flowers with sunlight shining through them.
I'm focusing most of my plant learning on CA native plants, but I'd still like to know more about the plants used in landscaping around me. I liked how the sunlight passing through these Calandrinia flowers (Cistanthe grandiflora) made them glow this evening. More: blog.revfad.com/2026/04/14/c...
NEW—I got an exclusive excerpt from a USAID whistleblower's new book that made me gasp multiple times. It details Trump's dismantling of the humanitarian aid agency & his team/DOGE's shocking ignorance to public health.
'Into the Wood Chipper' by Nicholas Enrich is out tomorrow. Read excerpt here:
Clusters of purplish flowers on thin stems above bunches of frilly leaves in a hellstrip. The lid for a water meter is visible in the background.

Happy to see more and more blooms on some calscape.org/Gilia-achill... since the beginning of April. Started in January from seed from seedhunt.com.

Earthset from Artemis II. I am overcome.
Just had this from Planet Labs, the US government have asked satellite imagery providers for "voluntarily" restrictions on access to satellite imagery. Given a lot of them provide satellite imagery to the USG we can probably guess the outcome of not acquiescing to that request.
I didn't know you'd been to Philmont. Sorry to hear about your dad.
Rows of pennies, standing up, some corroding. In the middle, a wheat penny.
There's at least one wheat penny on Curious the Bear at Gradient Canopy in Mountain View, CA. Have you found one? www.mr-and-mrs-ferguson.com/curious
Wrote up some more details on the grasses I've tried: blog.revfad.com/2026/03/21/t.... (Didn't get to writing about some of the ones I haven't had luck with though, starting from seed.) Would love to hear more about your experiences.
Seems like that quote is from 1867: es.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_resp..., following the execution of Maximilian I.
Someone told me this morning that Benito Juarez is Mexico's favorite president. Today is his 220th birthday. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0spZ... They shared this quote from him, gesturing at the world: "Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace."
Sound track for my morning, this first day of spring. Glad to have gotten to hear it today. Thank you for sharing it.
I guess I won't do this every strawberry flower (calscape.org/Fragaria-ves..., but I was happy to see the third flower of the year today, the two older ones pointing down and starting to turn into "aggregate accessory fruits".
Purplish stems and green leaves, against a yellow measuring tape. Two new shoots have grown around an inch from the closest node to where I made the cut. The original stem beyond the node is starting to dry up.
Purplish stems and green leaves. Two new shoots with bundles of tiny leaves have branched off from the node closest to where I made the cut around 6 days ago.
I notice some yerba buena has grown an inch+ in 6 days (calscape.org/Clinopodium-.... I'm not sure if this is fast, but I haven't had awareness of a growth rate before. I cut off a piece here for this March 14 event: cnps-scv.org/events/calen.... (Hopefully it's growing well for whoever took it.)
Looking forward to looking at this book draft shared by Greg Wilson on Linkedin: third-bit.com/2026/03/15/d.... The blog post also clued me into a couple other interesting books he's released that I missed.
Curious if you've tried Idaho fescue also. I've had pretty good luck with it too, mostly starting from seed. For me, what I think is Junegrass is doing pretty well and a couple needle grasses (purple and foothill) are hanging in there too. My CA fescue is starting to bloom like yours.
Baby blue eyes, starting to open.
White flower on a strawberry. A berry is starting to develop from an older flower.
Also saw the first baby blue eyes bloom of the year and the second strawberry bloom that I've caught. Little treasures. calscape.org/Nemophila-me... calscape.org/Fragaria-ves...

From Antelope Valley, Friday the 13th, here are a few more goldfields.

It's not a super bloom, but I was happy to see the first goldfields starting to bloom in our yard: calscape.org/Lasthenia-ca...
Closing tabs, one I hope to get back to: aardappel.github.io/lobster/READ.... And: aardappel.github.io/lobster/shoo.... Anyone play with this?
Four bright yellow petals with a mess of darker orange stamens in the middle. One of the leaves has a dusting of pollen.
Happy to see this bush poppy blooming, even with a little bug friend too. calscape.org/Dendromecon-.... We love the cucumber smell of the flowers. This was purchased sometime last year from www.lindavistanatives.com.
@knatten.bsky.social Thanks for "C++ Brain Teasers"! Had some fun playing with one of the examples: blog.revfad.com/2026/03/15/c.... Looking forward to learning more from the wealth of knowledge you've shared online.
An obscure methodological tweak -- a change in the source of data on the price of legal services -- resulted in meaningfully lower monthly PCE inflation in January. That's prompting questions about why the change was made and why it wasn't disclosed publicly.

Actually, it was doing something impressive... based on the context, "clockwise" was the right thing to say. Respect! I will be more careful in doubting my AI overlords.
I typed "counter-clockwise". Gmail suggests simplifying the sentence by replacing it with "clockwise".
Um, no, I do not want to simplify my sentence by replacing "counter-clockwise" with "clockwise". :-) I used to work on Spelling so this especially amused me. I see that it's more common not to hyphenate it. Maybe that's part of what confused things.
Our first buttercup flowers of the year opened today, about a week later than last year.
