Today at the @mrcdtpbiomed.bsky.social we wrapped up our annual programme of summer placements for undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds. Some very cool experiments, from macrophages to exosomes to microglia and brain organoids! Increased #diversity in future PhDs is the hope!

“Prioritizing inclusivity in research will broaden our understanding of AD/ADRD, leading to greater awareness, earlier and more accurate diagnosis, and ultimately to equitable treatments and interventions that benefit all communities” I say BRAVO to this, refreshing to see this clarity&commitment

Really troubling to see all this narrative translating into real life changes to ED&I in research. The hope was for the scientific system to be above all the crap, showing leadership and independence. As somebody who spends lots championing ED&I, this is frustrating & worrying for my US colleagues

Massively negative impact on the US academic system. For context, a similar measure in the UK would drive all Universities to bankruptcy

Wrapping up 2024, it’s been a year full of cool stuff in the lab, my team has been awesome. However it also was one of the most challenging years ever, personally, with life throwing the kitchen sink at us, including very challenging last few weeks. Really hoping for 2025 to bring some joy!
