The issue with the NA auto industry is how inefficient it is.

Cat manufacturers are heavily subsidized by governments which makes them obligated to keep production where they are getting subsidies. A part made here, there, everywhere.

It's stupid and expensive. A problem China doesn't have.

I have a full size truck.

Let me give you an idea just how stupid the truck market is.

I went to buy a single cab with an 8' box. I had to SPECIAL ORDER IT because 8' truck beds are an after thought and I had to wait 3 months for delivery.

FYI - A truck they no longer build.

That didn't stop Preston Manning from becoming the official opposition in the late 90s.

The AB / SK voters will eat that up as "he's one of us".

Just like they did for the Reform party.

How to hypnotize your future partner.

Step 1 - Do this

There are no other steps

Agreed. NIMBY's are always an issue.

For roads that are already shared, a simple fix may be to move the sidewalk out where the bike lane exists and move the bike lane to where the walkway exists and then narrow the main road to force traffic to slow down.

True, but I think city planning needs to be better.

You don't put bike lanes in the middle of playgrounds. You shouldn't have cars sharing the same space as bikes.

Danish cities have done an excellent job of preventing cars and bikes from sharing the same spaces. We should be modeling from them.

The issue with bikes is the same issue with motorcycles.

They are small, hard to see in mirrors, and (most importantly) the lanes are in the biggest blind spots that cars have. Passenger lane shoulder checks are the hardest to do, so of course that's the best place to put a bike lane. ๐Ÿ™„

Social safety nets to
Education to
Small business grants to
Jobs and housing

Everything that builds up a society to support big corporations that trade globally.

Something Conservatives seem to have forgotten over the last 50 years or so.

a tax break, it's a windfall for them. They can't magically create demand or hire people for no reason, so they use the free money to pay off debt or buy back stock enriching their stock holders.

For taxpayers it's corporate welfare. A waste of money.

The real benefits start from the bottom up.

The biggest lie Conservatives tell is "reducing taxes on corporations creates jobs".

It's laughable.

Corporations run on one year cycles, with 5 year outlooks and plans. Once they have their budget locked, they know where the money is going and how many people they need.

If some moron gives them

True.

Brian Mulroney left the country in a debt ridden lurch that took a decade and a half of Liberal leadership to fix. Most forgot that it was a center right Liberal party that fixed the mess.

It killed GDP growth for 16 years. ๐Ÿ˜

Either way, I expect entertainers / comedians and the media to do what they do best. When they see the government doing something ridiculous, make fun of it.

1 week ago 2 0 0 0

Possibly.

We'll have to see if they lean Harper or Cretchien. Right now it seems to be leaning into a more Cretchien style of government. Smaller government, tax reductions, big projects.

The O&G have been left to the UCP to figure out because everyone knows BC and First Nations will say no.

This doesn't mean that we shouldn't be scrutinizing and making fun of our politicians.

Politics isn't a cult and we certainly shouldn't be worshipping the ground they walk on. If people are getting pissy about poking fun at the Liberals it's a sign that Canadian politics are becoming polarized. ๐Ÿคฎ

Ideally, I'd like to see more progressive and out of the box thinking when it comes to policies, but when you have a nuclear level shit storm going on in the US government it kind of ties your hands and austerity ends up being the buzzword of the day.

I feel like we've time warped back to 1994, except the US president is a loon and we're looking down into the abyss due to an energy crisis.

On the plus side, the 90s Liberal Party was the most boring government we've had in 40 years. They got things done.

I could use something boring right now.

The government we have right now is a Chretien government.

I'm probably a fair bit older than you and having lived through the 90's it was actually good, especially compared to today's dumpster fire.

No, what I said is you have the stage.

Everyone complains. It's about the most boring thing people can do.

I prefer people who complain who have solutions. Since you complained, you need a solution that would be better than what the government has done.

Since you seem to know everything and are (clearly) better than our politicians, explain how you would do it better.

The stage is yours.

What Carney gets is

A. Everyone wants a decent job
B. Everyone wants a home
C. Everyone wants to be able to afford groceries
D. Some money left over for retirement

Once these things are sorted out THEN you get to be picky. Right now we can't afford to be picky and patience is needed.

There are going to be give and take for all projects on the table.

Ideally, I'd prefer EU / Japan / AUS UK NZ investors first, but if they don't have the resources or interest, you have to move down the list of interested parties.

Everything isn't going to be sunshine and rainbows.

Canada is caught in the middle of the Mulroney trap.

We anchored ourselves to the US through free trade and they made up the bulk of our exports.

Unwinding takes time and not all of the decisions are going to be ideal as we work our way through this muck.

It wouldn't be competitive, but the screams from newer players as their mana base went to the grave would be worth it.

EVs can tow.

The issue is, you may experience a significant reduction in range.

For a country that has invested heavily in charge points, not really an issue.

For North America, that is lagging far behind, it's a big deal.

I'm pretty sure the Democrats are salivating over the chance to use the same powers when they get into power.

Almost every US politician has been bought and paid for.

Just follow the money.
