(next to a map of the nearly 2,000 events planned for October 18) NO THRONES.
NO CROWNS.
NO KINGS.
SATURDAY, OCT. 18
Trump’s regime knows they can’t silence us all through investigations, prosecutions or the deployment of brutal secret police. They can only try to silence dissent through fear. As long as we choose not to give into fear, we can’t be silenced. Join us to say NO KINGS: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i...

Copies of the autobiographies of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglass, titled ‘Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl,’ and ‘Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass’ respectively.
In light of the erasure at the Smithsonian, let me recommend some books:
1. ‘Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl’ by Harriet Jacobs
2. ‘Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass’ by Frederick Douglass
Both excellent, brutal depictions of U.S. slavery as it truly was, written by survivors.

Cover of “The Originalism Trap” by Madiba K. Dennie. The cover features two orange feathers in an “X” shape, laid over the text of the Constitution. Subtitle: How extremists stole the Constitution and how we the people can take it back.

📚Juneteenth Read!📖
Celebrate Juneteenth by getting informed with ‘The Originalism Trap’ by Madiba K. Dennie
Dennie exposes how courts use cherry-picked versions of U.S. history and deliberate misconstructions of the Constitution to undermine our civil rights

Image of a tweet from “The Hill,” posted October 18th, 2024, of Kamala Harris warning, in a speech that, quote, Trump will send the army after you, end quote. The Hill headline for the image reads, Kamala’s newest lie.

Today in the Oval Office, Trump and Vance bullied and belittled our ally, Zelenskyy, proving what incompetent, dishonorable, small men they truly are.

The best thing to happen to the Bond film franchise was the game Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64.
Which tells you everything you need to know about the quality of the movies.

I don’t think OP is comparing them directly.
I think the point is that most school children learn about Helen Keller (and people like her), while Du Bois (and people like him) mostly show up in specialized college courses.
It’s meant to point out the disparity in who gets taught about and when.

To add to this (and maybe this is only me) but I don’t remember learning anything about the Reconstruction Era. This was the period directly after the end of slavery, and a period of massive social progress, largely killed and reversed by the advent of segregation.

A few I’d recommend:
‘Separate: The Story of Plessy V. Ferguson’ by Steve Luxenberg.
‘Robert E. Lee and Me’ by Ty Seidule
‘Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl’ by Harriet Jacobs
I’d also suggest the writings of W.E.B. Du Bois and Frederick Douglass

I’m an advocate for research and character development prior to drafting, but this👆 is why I’ve never been able to get into hard outlines.
Outlines make me feel as though I’m eliminating those free-flow scenes and sections before they have a chance to exist!

I just finished “Between the World and Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Very lyrical, thought provoking, and insightful. Would 100% recommend.
And am currently reading “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson. I’m about 1/5 through but my minds already blown.

DoorDash yourself a coffee. Leave instructions for the driver on how to stealthily, and silently, break into your home, so that they can deliver the coffee to you without disturbing the cat, or requiring you to move.

More self-censorship in an effort to spare the feelings of small, fragile man.
It’d be humorous if it weren’t so pathetic.

I wrote “she crouched to the ground.”
😑As opposed to what, Daniel?
“crouched up the escalator” ?
“crouched across the Sahara” ?
“crouched into the multiverse” ?
