A rom-com author caught heat for using the phrase ‘Wawa sub’ in her new book. She’s defending it. B.K. Borison's new book, "And Now, Back to You," includes a line about ordering a "sub" — not a hoagie — from Wawa. Some readers are horrified. Now, the author is doubling down.

Even when they show signs of weakness or forced regret, we must not give an inch. Authoritarian governments still respond to public opinion, which is why sustained pressure matters. We have to keep making clear that these thuggish actions are unconscionable and will not be tolerated. Don’t let up.

The Alex Pretti shooting and the growing strain on the First Amendment After Alex Pretti's death at the hands of Border Patrol, officials have rushed to brand him a terrorist. But the real danger here is not violent dissent. It’s hostility to the First Amendment.

"When Americans see someone shot dead in the street shortly after recording federal agents—and hear top government officials immediately justify the shooting before any investigation can begin—they will reasonably fear that exercising these rights carries not just legal risk but physical danger."

Zeman: Rivalry isn’t trademark infringement This year, Ohio State has taken the unusual step of whining to refs off the field, lodging an objection with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The Constitution protects the right of fans on both sides to taunt their rivals — even if it means upsetting them (13–10).

Beat Ohio.

We already do this though ... at the city/county/state level for nonresidents – for example, Michigan DNR Passport or DIA being free for Metro Detroiters.

Obv don't need more reasons for tourists to avoid the U.S. right now, but I doubt I'd think twice about this otherwise.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

In a webinar today about the threats to expression in the U.S., I said the question was ultimately more about whether people would have the courage to fight for their rights than whether they would win those fights. You do not retain rights you willingly give up.

BREAKING: Free speech doesn’t stop when the sun sets—but Texas thinks it does. A new Texas law forces public universities to ban virtually all expressive activities after 10 PM, a violation of the First Amendment.

That’s why FIRE is suing to stop this chilling law in its tracks.

STATEMENT: President Trump may believe he has the power to revise the First Amendment with the stroke of a pen, but he doesn’t.

Flag burning as a form of political protest is protected by the First Amendment. That’s nothing new.

Opinion from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit — Spectrum W.T. v. Wendler The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit overruled a lower court to halt an unconstitutional ban on student drag performances at West Texas A&M University.

4/ Today’s ruling places a hold on Wendler’s enforcement of his illegal directive, allowing Spectrum WT and any other student organization to hold drag shows while litigation continues.

3/ The First Amendment bars public officials at state universities, like Wendler, from censoring performances based on nothing more than personal disapproval.

2/ In 2023, West Texas A&M President Walter Wendler unilaterally canceled a planned campus drag show intended to raise money for suicide prevention. Wendler claimed drag offends and demeans women, even though he admitted “the law of the land appears to require” him to allow the performance.
