The Egg, a cricket trophy awarded to the winners of Overland vs Meanjin matches, alongside a copy of Jim Davidson's Emperor in Lilliput, the book about magazine founding editors Clem Christesen and Stephen Murray-Smith.
Since our very first issue Meanjin and Overland have been comrades, mates, rivals, and drinking buddies. The UMP board’s decision is a shockingly myopic act of cultural vandalism which will grievously harm the Australian literary community.
My personal reflection on the Bendigo Writers Festival debacle and why discomfort is always better than disconnection.
A Palestinian journalist just followed us. Less than 5 min later, suspended. Wtf @support.bsky.team

Gideon Levy: “Are you sure that Israel has the moral right to prevent such a mission from reaching Gaza? We should salute the 12 activists, including Greta Thunberg, who are attempting to reach Gaza on the Freedom Flotilla aid ship. “It's an act of conscience, an act of courage.”
IT IS OF GREAT MORAL URGENCY THAT WE SEND THE SPIRIT OF TASMANIA TO GAZA

#tdih 1969 Mexican-American students in Denver walked out to demand:
- more bilingual classes,
- Chicano history & literature in curriculum,
- smaller class sizes, &

The police is asking to keep bookshop owners Ahmad and Mahmoud Mona in custody for 8 (!!) more days. A demonstration outside the court calling for their release, and diplomats from some eight countries are in the court. "Fascism is burning us". Via @nirhasson.bsky.social
We’re alarmed and outraged that two of our key partners, Mahmoud and Ahmed Muna, have been arrested in Jerusalem for the crime of selling books.
The misperception that the civil rights movement (and other movements of minoritized/marginalized people) had the courts/justice on their side is directly related to how teaching of movements often highlights major events while minimizing grassroots actions and the numerous legal/political failures.
