Had a fab time at the @envirant.bsky.social workshop held @teagasc.bsky.social Ashtown this week. Nice workshop on measuring anthelmintics residues followed by two days of cracking talks on all things worm control. Met some of the nicest people too!

Working from home today, and made the terrible mistake (inspired decision) of making sure all the bird feeders were fully replenished...not much work happening, but delighted by what's happening outside!

Influence of ewe metabolic status on failure of passive transfer of immunity and lamb production in a UK lowland flock Background Inadequate ewe nutrition is an important driver for neonatal lamb losses, although the association of ewe metabolic status with lamb passive transfer status is poorly understood. Cool paper exploring the links between ewe nutritional status, failure of passive transfer of immunity, and lamb growth: bvajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/.... Important to develop cut-off parameters to diagnose FPTI like we have for cattle!

Year 3 of our experiment looking at impacts of rotational grazing on sheep-parasite interactions is DONE! Huge amounts of data collected already (lamb growth, pasture mass, FEC), with a freezer full of samples ready to be attacked over winter…

Yep, Alison was telling me about the difficulties. I'm sure it's irritating because there are a lot of studies on the topic, butthey all differ so much in what they've done and what/how they report that comparing them becomes impossible...I'll look out for it tho because it would be really valuable!

Excellent! I gather there may have been a meta-analysis involved as well, that was proving quite tricky to get started with...

Our article on the peri-parturient relaxation of immunity is out in Vet Para (experiment >10 years ago, before I arrived at Moredun!). Set up a couple of baited pitfall traps to see what dung beetles we’ve got in our grazing trial at our research farm. Looking forward to seeing what we’ve got in a week’s time!

Lots of fun in the Moredun tent at the Royal Highland Show yesterday, chatting to folk about various project and showing them revolting things in jars. Nipped out for a bit to see some animals and get the obligatory Valais Blacknose pic
